Wiring the whole house with ethernet

mrmods

I am currently doing up the house as an extension so I am taking the opportunity to put in Ethernet ports in every room which i have done but how do i connect it all together with my Virgin media Hub 3.0 to get internet everywhere?

If i need extra parts please list them and what to do with them.

Thanks

Ideally, you want all the connections to converge in a single place (ideally a place where you don't mind wires and maybe noise if you're going to be running a server or something) so that you can hook everything up to a switch, then hook the switch up to your router.

Your going to have to run the wire through the walls to the points you want ethernet ports, then have it run back to a switch, then the switch into your access point/router/server.

Alternatively, you could pick a spot on each floor to be a "hub" where a dwitch will be placed and the connections carry on from there.... this can be useful for example for upstairs rooms if you have an empty loft that you could put a swtich in and then just run the ethernet down to each room. But to do it properly, as @Oshino Shinobu said, it's better to have them all converge in one place to connect to the main swtich directly. That is in turn connected to the router with a single ethernet cable.

I'd do it the "proper" way personally, but my janky ass has to do it the other way as I rent and can't tear up the walls, not all of them anyway, lol. And as for the rest of the walls which have been "altered" and have holes poked though the walls, ceilings, what they don't know can't hurt them! all is easily covered with plaster and paint if I move, quite proficient at using plaster and paint so you wouldn't notice xD

Please quote my post, or put @paddy-stone if you want me to respond to you.
