AMD RX 550 good for light mining?

Hi,

i recently started mining ETH and BTC , but i ran into a problem.

My R7 250 with 2GB DDR3 has low Hashrate. When mining less demanding cryptocurrency , i Get an avarege Hashrate of 100-150...Now , would and RX 550 be a reasonable upgrade for mining? Its quite cheap , costs only 60€, and i dont have alot of money.

My current specs are :

Gigabyte AMD R7 250 2GB DDR3 OC 100mm Fan

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2,40GHz

8GB DDR2 RAM

Windows 10 Pro

an R9 270(x) , wich costs about the same on the used will give you way higher hashrates (450h/s cryptonight ~1$ per day) and much much better gaming performance

You'd have to be crazy to pay that much for a R9 270

On a big forum here in my country where  i'm a member, there's a member which sells a R9 280x for 450 RON (around 96 euro) , here's link (though you may need an account to view that section of the forum) : https://www.mygarage.ro/vanzari/385359-r9-280-a.html

Hell, I can buy a RX 560 with 4 GB of memory for around 120 euro, here's link : https://www.pcgarage.ro/placi-video/sapphire/radeon-rx-560-pulse-45w-4gb-ddr5-128-bit/

Or another one, even a bit cheaper (still Black Friday deals at some stores) : https://altex.ro/placa-video-asus-rog-strix-radeon-rx-560-o4g-evo-gaming-oc-edition-4gb-gddr5-128bit-rx560-o4g-evo-gaming

If you really have such a shitty buy choices, if you have paypal to pay me, i'd be willing to buy one for you and mail it to you (just add around 3-5 euro for postage) ... but you should also be able to buy from stores like amazon.co.uk or amazon.de

Yeah, but you'd also need a suitable motherboard AND DDR4 memory which is quite expensive these days. i3 8100 requires socket 1151 v2 boards, the more expensive boards with chipset z370

You have a Q6600 which can still sort of keep up even with modern games - sure, a high end video card would be chocked by the cpu a bit, but a card like RX 560 or GTX 1060 would work just fine with it.

If you go that route, you'd probably be better off with a Ryzen 3 1300x and overclock it to 3.8 ..3.9 Ghz : https://www.mall.hr/procesori/amd-procesor-ryzen-3-1300x-s-hladnjakom-wraith-stealth-65w-yd130xbbaebox

Ryzen 5 1400 would be even better, as it has hyperthreading (so you have 8 cores in windows) , but it's around 1200 kr on that site.

You'd save some money on the motherboards, would probably be cheaper than those compatible with coffee lake.

Yeah , the Ryzen 3 is quite cheap , A new one costs only 100€ , and pairing that with 8GB DDR4 Crucial RAM for 60€ , a new AM4 motherboard 40€ and a RX 550 70€ , its not quite expensive , so i might get some parts for Black Friday and some for Christmas
