Assassins creed Origins bundled with a Virtual machine

Nataly_Gaming_Girl

I was playing Assassins creed Origin

then I heard that my cpu fan running like a car Turbo

I checked the temp and the cpu temp was at 90C

I checked task manager and CPU usage was 100%

I played 100's of games mostly AAA

on the same PC

and assassins creed origins is the Only game that was using 100% cpu usage even in menu

I searched steam forum

and I found that the game is using Denuvo

but I played many yes many Denuvo games and none of them was using 100% cpu usage

then I searched again and I found that Assassins Creed Origin is using Vmprotect

and according google Vmprotect with a game is like Running the game and a VIRTUAL MACHINE at the same time

so when I was playing Assassins creed origin the game was also running a Virtual Machine in the backround

I hope no damage done to my cpu because of the 90C

I requested a refund as I'm still only at 1.7 hours of gameplay

I also played a couple of AAA games with Denuvo and Cpu usage was 30 to 40 %

and then again tried Asassins creed origins only in menu and CPU usage spiked to 100% so I shut it down .

the thing is that the game should not use more cpu just because it's running in a virtual machine.

virtual machines DO have a little cpu overhead but it's not like emulation where the CPU has to do a lot of heavy work to convert code between different system architectures in real time.

so if the game uses 100% cpu, it would do so even without a VM

I tested many games from my steam library most of them with Denuvo

only this game has 100% CPU usage

Vmprotect is the reason Not Denuvo .

you can always limit how much CPU the game can use on windows power settings. Apart from that is a demanding game (even on xbox as gamernexus shows) with a DRM inside another DRM. So no miracles.

It completely depends on how you implement it and what it's doing inside the VM. In this case it appears the game calls a library every time you move, so pretty much constantly, which causes massive performance drops for no reason other than DRM. The virtualization itself may not be what's causing it, but the DRM scheme as a whole is.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

whatever shit they have going inside that VM is the reason - not the fact that it is a VM

So you have any proof of this? Or are you arguing correlation = causation?

Not really interested in his problems given his hostility, nor do I particularly care about this #statusupdate-esque topic.

Just wanted to ask him for an answer I knew he couldn't provide for lulz.

not relevant, if you search even high end CPU's suffer with AC:O

it kind of seams like whatever CPU horsepower is available the game uses it

How the hell is this not relevant? Also reserving resources on Windows Scheduler is nothing new, I am not asking for some random steam forum link I am asking to know OP's CPU.

not getting into a pointless internet discussion but if a i7 7700k is at 99% the problem is not the CPU you have. Just saying. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Your CPU shouldn't be damaged.

Ubisoft their DRM is just sheit.

But high CPU temps for a little while shouldn't matter.
Although if you'd run at 90C° for multiple hours, it might cause the CPU to malfunction & fail.

If you care to tell me, what CPU cooler do you use?

Intel Stock cooler or aftermarket Air Cooler/AIO?

what part of not posting the vmp0 story did you not understand. Regardless, this does not prove how much cpu cycles it costs or how big the impact is.

at what point did anybody say not to post it?  and it does show that the VM process is pinning the cpu at 100% load, which means its not denuvo, its VMprotect

Today I decided to bring an end to the lurking gatekeeper behaviour that is going on on this post so that all may be done with this.

The game runs in VMprotect.

One of the ways VMprotect protects software is by running non-standard virtual instructions instead of the normal X86 instruction ...

That means that you have a set of virtual instruction that are transcoded on the fly by the CPU into usual instruction ... That's where lots the resources go.

It's a nightmare to debug that's why they do it that way. Now try imagining having to debug denuvo under that ...

That's all thank you.

Ignorance is bliss;

Lux in Tenebris.
