Notification for every thread merge?

Bouzoo
Go to solution Solved by vanished,

If a topic was posted it generates a notification, and then when you load that notification it shows you the topic it's for, which is now all one topic since they were merged together

Does this happen every time topics get merged? Never got the notifications for the threads that were posted later and then merged, just for this one.

I always post the browser info when I think there's a bug, had a feeling this is supposed to be like that, just wanted to check. Ryan said everything there is to say.

Am I interpreting this right?:

  • You follow Tech News and Reviews, and get a notification every time a new topic is posted there
  • Several topics were posted about that news article (by different people), which ended up being merged together
  • You now have multiple identical notifications, mentioning the title and current OP of the resulting merged topic

I'm not sure whether that's WAI, because clearly it's not useful here, but if the topic was merged to somewhere else it could be useful.

Pretty much spot on. So if it's not WAI (working as intended I assume?), was it even supposed to be a feature or is it just an accidental bug feature ?

Yeah, working as intended. In your case it would be neater if the notification was removed, because it's duplicated. It may be a bug that it isn't being removed, though from memory I thought it would have required additional code to work in the way that it is, so it's possible that it was a deliberate decision to implement it that way.
