Would this acctually happen?

In linus's new video which you can find down below he put two GIANT fans on a computer and SPOILER ALERT it got everything down to the same temp as the room around it and it got me thinking, remember awhile back when he make a computer in a fridge? If this got down to the same temp as the room it was in what if the room was colder? How low could it go do you think?

Well... Deductive time:

If comp temp = room temp, I'd say that comp temp would equal room temp.

 

I'd guess that the computer would be the same temperature as the room.

the CPU was like 55C right? ambient temp let's assume 25. So 30C above ambient... so whatever the temperature of the fridge, plus 30C, but then you'd have to account for the hot air trapped in the fridge, so maybe add 35-40C.

You cannot go lower than the ambient temperature (ambient isn't necessarily the room's temp, but the container's temp), but lowering it would make quite a good difference to the rate of diffusion across hot and cold or, if you're a dick physicist, hot and less hot.

yes effectively you can make a computer the ambient temp of any location , if it was outside in the winter it would make the computer the outdoor temp

To clarify, I believe what he said was he got the air inside the case down to the ambient temp of the room, not the components themselves.

The reason a chassis/tower cools so effectively is that it isolates internal components and external ambient temperatures. A refrigerator wouldn't be a good isolator for the computer since it contains the heat that the components produce thereby bringing its own ambient up further rather than dissipating it across a larger area. This is why most pull air from the front and exhaust out of the back, this creates a nice "tunnel" but also separates zone of heat and cold for much longer than if the exhaust and intake were on the same side.

If the room was 1 degree cooler then the temps would be 1 degree cooler.

If the room was 200 degrees cooler, the temps would be 200 degrees cooler.

 

This applies to any computer, it doesn't need to have giant fans on it for this to happen, this is just physics.

no, if the room was 200 degrees cooler we'd never know the temp since anyone entering to take a reading would instantly die

Look at LN2 overclockers, they experience a "cold bug" with some stuff where it doesn't work at too cold temperatures and have to do things to try and get around it, like not cooling some parts as much.

Valid question.  Some suffer from something known as "cold bug" and they will stop working under low temps like that, but others can handle it just fine.  Look up LN2 extreme overclocking

Well people overclock on CPUs at -200C with liquid nitrogen, but they need to use blow torches to defrost the CPU sometimes, especially for booting.

I'd see that as a nice problem to have. I recently started on hwbot, and I'm keeping to non-sub ambient cooling only. I think I'd still be within rules if I just happen to choose a cooler ambient...  Now if only the weather will actually hurry up and get colder...

I mean you wouldn't instantly die. But the frostbite would fucking hurt for whatever short amount of time you're alive.
