Are Dell PSUs any good ?

i bought a dell barebone so i can keep using my i3 3220.

 

the original board this i3 was on died and i found this refurbished Optiplex 7010 for the same price i would have payed for a used 1155 mainboard alone.

 

i want to add a 1050ti (no OC, no 6pin) to it along with one SSD and one HDD. the sticker on the power supply says 275W MAX. 

 

for the sake of keeping the budget as low as possible i would like to keep the PSU in there but how good are dell power supplies? is it safe to keep it or should i replace it?

I guess it's sufficient, but I'd replace it anyways. Just buy a Corsair CX450M.

I am the person to ask about Dell systems. Of the many I have had, I have yet to have an issue with any of them. They seem to be under rated.

i would take the OEM grey 350W seasonic from my main PC and put that in the dell. unlike my main pc wich has an all black case, the dell case has an unpainted backside so it should blend in just fine. 

 

would add to the budget tho because then i would have to buy a new PSU for my main PC.

Who's the OEM? Delta and Lite-On are golden, other brands are hit and miss.

Depends on the OEM.

Dell tends to use Lite-On and Delta PSU's, but there can be others employed. Can you give us the product number?

It's been made by Bestec. I don't know how good those were in Dell systems.

sounds like "besteck" - the german word for silverware. the PSU is shiny tho ...

"fd-xd27fmgf-1" indicates that it's a Bestec PSU delivering 275W. 

 

Bestec isn't the best, but it could be worse. @STRMfrmXMN, would this be tier 5, 6, or 7? Have any info on this one?

I had 3 dells, and an alienware, the alienware motherboard stopped recieving power correctly, 2 of the dell desktops fried the cpus and the other one just lost its hdd. So I dont trust them.

It's from a Dell with a Core i3 and I don't see a dGPU, so I'm guessing it's of pretty poor quality. I'd say skip it.

thanks for the info. i'll use the seasonic i mentioned instead.

 

i want to give this PC to my cousin and his last PC died probably because of a shitty PSU. that mainboard is toast and i don't want this to happen again.
