Upgrading from a 24" 1080p IPS

I want to upgrade my display for something bigger for less than 400$ (will be upgrading to a 1070 later on)

I'm considering the switch to 16:9 1440p or 21:9 1080p and I game about half the time on my PC.

Some people said that 29" ultrawides look grainy but to me it's juste a 24" (which I'm using now) with more screen space on the sides. I also sit about 2 feet away from the screen so 1080p is sharp enough to my eyes.

I am not ruling out 144Hz but most of them are TN and I really love my IPS panel so they have to be really good.

Edit: I do appreciate good aesthetics too (borderless/infinity in the likes of Dell)

all 144hz ips panels come in 1440p models, there are no 1080p ips 144hz panels (ive looked)

I'd probably go 1440p unless you need the ultra wide space for productivity

29" 1080p ultrawide has about the same PPI as 25" 1080p ... really no difference.

24" 1440p IPS $220

27" 1440p IPS $240

I've looked up and yeah it seems IPS 144hz are all 1440p which are over my budget and impossible to drive without sacrifices.

Also what the advantages of 1440p 16:9 besides the compatibility? (which isn't a problem for most of the games I play)

Between ultra wide 1080p and 16:9 1440p? Mostly pixel density (more ppi so images are sharper) but even ultra wide 1080p is easier to drive GPU wise (less overall pixels) and has more space for a work flow environment.

Is it worth it for someone like me who isn't very sensitive to pixel density past 1080p (my eyesight isn't particularly stellar)? I own a Macbook Pro retina (2560x1600) and my phone is also a 1440p and while I do appreciate the sharpness, I tend to forget about the resolution. My main reason to go for 1440p is to go bigger in size (27") without loosing clarity as I do notice some bluriness on a 1080p 27"

Do you sit one inch from the screen?

I am about 3 feet away, looks GREAT

I guess so but then again I'm more easily impressed by the increase in size than sharpness haha

I recently got a Acer XF270HU and its fantastic!

It's one hell of a gorgeous beast! But can't afford it (and the 1080 Ti on top of that for full potential) :/
