1.55v with LLC on so it's ~1.6v under load? That's a lot of voltage.

I did prime95 my cpu @5.1GHz w 1.65v max load(vdrop 1.59v),LLC on. The temperature is 89~95°C. Manage to run for 30 minutes then i turnt it off. Once i finish my new system then i will run my 990x @5.1GHz daily and see how it turns out. We have solar energy installed a couple months ago and it's only 50% effeciceny so i can only run max load from 6am to 6pm.

Do u think xeon x5690 would OC better than i7 990x? I think my cpu requires too much voltage to be stable @4.8GHz or even @5GHz.

I just realize u also use R2E. This mb is really good right? Been 10 years and still running without any problem for me. The highest BCLK i can get with is 215. I lost the default heatsink after awhile, but the koolance mobo wb is doing great. The color isn't shiny anymore, it's kind dark now.

Anyway, im gonna start to reach the rest of the comments in this topic. Hope i can found some update software/driver etc.. Haha, so hard to find a driver for window 10.

That poor CPU. 1.53 volts is very high water cooled or not and becare full with 1.6 volts as this is where these chips are in a great risk of being fried and dies. But then again, its not an exspensive CPU any more, so if it burns out, Xeons are cheap any way.

With that said i had a Asus rampage 2 extreme and a I7 920 in that to, until i got my hands in a bundle with an I7 980X and a seconds gen Asus X58 board (ASUS P6X58D Premium) together with a Noctua NH-D15. For benchmark i took my own chip up to 4.75 GHz at 1.55 volts. For every day use i dial it back to 1.43 volts at 4.4 GHz.

A few benchmark of my own system. All benchmark are run with aircooling.

To achieve these clock speed on my I7 980X on air cooling. I have worked with the airflow in my old Antec Twelve Hundred case. With some ghetto mods used as well. But boy does it work.

rando comment, but ive got a asus p6x58-e ws, anyways if its shut off or restarted it has to be removed from power for about 10 mins or it wont post(fully removed either the psu switch flipped or unplugged), any clue why? weirdest thing i've seen in a while, its a second pc meant for messing around so its no biggie,

anyways its not ram, tried all 6 six slots with multiply different ram sticks, not the cpu tired 3 different ones, not the gpu tried 3, psu is only 2 months old, changed cmos battery its all good, tried it with no cmos battery same issue, idk maybe its a bad bios chip? ideas? this is mostly because its weird a fix is nice but not needed

thinking more my only ideas are bad nvram, bad bios chip, or a capacitor thats on the edge of working, not enough to keep if from booting clearly but maybe restart?idk

OK, need some advice. I pulled my X58 out of Mothballs. Figured I would play with it again.

Lights go on, fans spin, GPU is running, but no post. I tried an X5690 and now an X5670, but nothing. You think the Mobo is dead? Or am I missing something easy? I'm, not used to my new builds not running correctly the first time. I just can't think of what to try. I already moved ram about, checked all the connections, and as I said, replaced the CPU.

Its an Asus Rampage Formula III.

Thanks.

Reset CMOS? BIOS chips are in place and you tried switching between the two?

is ECC memory support based off the motherboard or the CPU; also, is there some god-tier X58 CPU that i should keep an eye out for?

Both, as far as I remember. If I recall correctly, memory support is determined by chipset.

If you have ECC memory but the board doesn't support it, you won't have a fun time.

In a similar manner, if you have ECC memory and the CPU doesn't support it, you also won't have a fun time.

aight, IG i need to check on the boards' end then, as i imagine a xeon would support ECC

Pretty sure everything on Intel's high end supports ECC.

I know my X99 board does, and I'm pretty sure my 5820K won't complain either. All Xeons that I'm aware of support ECC as well.

Yeah, I wonder why its not working. Was fine when I put it in a box and its been sitting for a few months. I did reset the bios. Its not posting at all. I will reset the cmos and see if that works. Thanks!

unfortunately, it would seem my motherboard does not support ECC. on a side note, anybody ever mounted an NH-D15 on LGA 1366?

I would have if I had the LGA 1366 bracket, but I don’t. I have two NH-U9 DX i4s (that’s a long name) I’m going to put on my SR-2 once I’ve got the time though.

Also on the ECC thing, you should be able to run ECC non-registered/unbuffered as normal DDR3. ECC-Registered/buffered can only run as that, and requires the Intel 5520 chipset on LGA1366. Would be interesting to see if it still runs on the SR-2, they use 5520 but kind of behave like a hybrid between that and X58.

The X5670 is the most famous because of good overclocking prowess and, most importantly, phenomenal availability. The OC difference between this chip and the highest tier CPUs is non existent, the difference between a 5670 and something like a 5690 is just the stock clocks, so the added cost in a decent x58 board doesn't go to any use. someone like me would prefer one, because I'm stuck in a server motherboard and can't OC

alright thanks, i was wondering if there were any idk like 8/16 chips that i missed, so since i have the x5680 i'm good, and then if i do actually buy this NH-D15 i just overclock the stuffing out of it right?

Most definitely

if you really want 8 cores, you can go my route and get that sweet dual socket.

maybe, got any reccomendations that are both relatively cheap and preferably ATX? don't know if i quite have the case modding skills yet to make it fit.

unfortunately no, like I said the thicc server board is the way to go, and unfortunately you lose overclocking

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad
