is it me or is the sound not synced with the video?

i think it just depends on the metal used, if only they would make coolers of pure copper for cpu's or even full silver(pure) coolers ( would be funny to see tested fully silver(pure) tbh xD ) sadly the price would be too insane :(

 

pst. request for @LinusTech  get a pure silver cpu cooler manufactured the size of a noctua nh-d15 ( same model perhaps even xD )  10/10 would donate for that project

sadly they are not designed for full performance, only for quiet :( id like to see a pure copper nh-d15   ( n pure silver would be even more awesome xD )

That's why proper radiators are made of copper. My external rad weighs 6KG without liquid. Aluminium equivalent would be much lighter, cheaper but worse. 

 

An all copper D15 would be pretty cool.

Silver is almost as heavy as lead, not a good idea for a pure silver heat sink on something as large as the nh-d15.

The base plate however...

A pure silver heat sink, that is large (fins and all) is probably a bad idea due to it being both heavy and soft.

However, silver construction where it matters most (base plate and possibly heat pipes) may increase performance, albeit probably only around 5% if even that.

Small heat sinks may benefit greatly from being made completely out of silver (softness may still be an issue so a silver alloy may be better).

This is one of the reasons I don't watch LTT anymore. I simply don't care at all if I can judge a cooler by it's weight. It's a meaningless stupid question that even with an answer solves nothing. You aren't going to buy a cooler by weight and if you are looking for the most valuable coolers at a junk yard you would go off material. As a lighter all copper heatsink would cost more than a heavier aluminum one. The forum is still great and I will continue to support LTT as a floatplane pilot. But these videos feel more like a waste of time then something to learn from.

Remember the scythe ninja was a large 800g block available in both ali and copper but it was not the best cooler.

I'm still using a cooler master Z600, a 1kg passive heatsink.

I wish they still made these ridiculously large coolers, even if they are not the best design they looked better than modern heatsinks.

Electroplating is mainly used for corrosion resistance.  The coat is microns thin, there would be no noticeable changes in performance.

Not to mention that electroplating silver directly on to copper is a bad idea.
