What was your first Newegg order?

KuJoe

So the other day I was reviewing all of my past orders on Newegg and I decided to go back to the first order I ever placed, it was a pack of 10 80mm fans for $0.99 each... oddly enough Newegg still stocks them and right now the same fans are on "sale" for $6.95 each. xD

Here's the fan in question: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835150007

And here's my order I placed on 8/10/2004:

Killer deal right? LoL!

So when and what was your first purchase? How much did you pay for it and what could you buy it for today (outside of Newegg)?

LoL! My first video card I ordered from Newegg was back in 2005 when I ordered a PowerColor RADEON X700 for $109... I RMA'ed it 4 months later for a refund because the fan was too loud. O.o

Never ordered anything there - cause Germany... :P

But the first thing I ordered from an e-tailer was a Corsair AX760i PSU, which was DOA.

Got it replaced within two days and now I'm running the new one in my current PC.

I think they do, but the shipping costs are obviously very high and it takes quite a while to get it shipped across the ocean.

It looks like I spend the refund money on a copy of Windows XP Pro (w/SP2) so I'm wondering if the fan was actually loud or I just needed a copy of XP...

Sometimes I've wondered fairly recently - would it have been possible then, for about the same price, to get a quad-core CPU, then-decent entry to midrange GPU, SSD for OS & programs, 80+ bronze or better PSU, better case (like that era's version of a Define R5 without the door), etc?  I think if I'd gotten, for example, a Q6600 and 9800 GT or whatever at the time, I'd only just now be replacing them with Ryzen, and either Pascal or Maxwell or Polaris.

I already had these hard drives before buying that computer.

IMG_20170929_230018210.thumb.jpg.22e9f20d0ece04f72f9919127847b108.jpg

All three drives were bought locally.  Also my parents had peripherals & furniture (monitor, keyboard, mouse, printer, desk, chair, cat (who passed in 2009 :()).

The 80GB was the first drive I ever bought - was at a local one-day computer fair which used to run either once a week or once a month, I forget now.  Interestingly, even though it was sold as "new", it already had some data on it. :o The 750GB drive I believe was, at the time of purchase, the largest capacity available where I was shopping.  I don't remember for sure, but I think I paid around $130 or so for it, possibly $150.  Also it, and that particular place, happened to be the best deal.

A few pics of the PC:

IMG_4560.thumb.JPG.c77001e0bb6aa62e6529bddfce67561a.JPG IMG_1292.thumb.JPG.7ac6c5e1ae97415a2844631b684965d2.JPG 1006_005505.thumb.jpg.c56e5bef548337840d6ebbe14aff7539.jpg

Yeah, the door broke off within several months of purchase :/ See why I don't like cases with front doors? (That, and it's one more step to access the drive bays; although now I might be more likely to put hot-swap cages in there.)  I'm strongly considering getting a Define R5, though; at least its door is removable, and maybe it's more durable as well?

Examples of a typical day on the PC ...

ff-too_many_tabs.jpg.3d89092ecf53a5229b7cdb2b44c43dcc.jpg 599ca54e7c500_Screenshot2010-03-10345am-FVprobs-comptoitsknees.thumb.jpg.d549070f15ecad04201b29358cfe2570.jpg

If I was playing one of the horror / scary games that I sometimes see people streaming on Twitch, I'd probably crank up the gamma like that. :) (With default settings, that tunnel is pretty much completely black.)  It's not my style of game, though.  (Although, it would be fun to play something like Dead by Daylight or Friday The 13th: The Game vs a female streamer, sneak up behind her in-game at the same time I do a $6.66 or 666-bit donation, for a double scare :P :x ??)

And on the quad TF Classic screenshot, I wish I knew what caused those lag spikes. :/ They happened quite often.  Game/system would freeze completely for like a second or two, then suddenly resume almost as if nothing had happened (other than me being blown to bits or something).

Below, on the left was my custom spray in Team Fortress Classic for quite a while with that computer, and the pic on the right was taken either shortly before, or right around the time the motherboard died, around March 2012.

me_conc_death_blueflag.jpg.d4153a445ed5755da86dc17290db5201.jpg IMG_7864.thumb.JPG.0505b948273a7dbba03a096c8b8e6824.JPG

If I'd had the money then, I probably would have built a system with an i5-2500/K or i7-2600/K, GTX 460/470 (or whatever was current at the time), SSD, etc.  It wasn't until January 2015 that I saved up for my current system.  (And now there's a chance I might need to replace some things in it prematurely, because of the possibility of its motherboard being dead or at least compromised.)

2012 I built my first/current gaming rig and ordered everything on Black Friday had to fight with my bank because their security department kept flagging the purchase as fraud because up till then I hadn't spent more than $100 on a online purchase.

A GTX 750 TI from EVGA. Best 120$ I spent at the time.. This was nearly three years ago. It's still running strong in my current system! A capable little card.
