Overclocking q6600 lga775

I want to overclock my core 2 quad q6600, with tape.

core 2 quad q6600 

7 GB of ddr2 ram 

500 w corsair psu

ps:

and i do have a very good cooler for the cpu, anything wrong pls tell me. Thx

You can't overclock on Dell PCs.

Nothing to do with that.. you need to have options on the bios..

Yes, you can BSEL mod it even in OEM PC.

I think you are thinking about getting an LGA771 chip into the board, thats not overclocking. You can't overclock on those OEM boards. You will either need a new board or a faster CPU if you want want to get a new board.

It is possible to overclock Q6600 to 3GHz on OEM boards.

I am sure you can but it won't be stable though, the power would be a limiting factor too,  yes you can trick the boards into being overlooked but its not practical.

It should be stable and works with any mobo that supports 1333MHz FSB. I've never had any problems with it.

It's still not a good thing to do. Overclocking will require a higher voltage and OME boards are only designed to work with one voltage for the chip the board is designed to take, so being a dell probably a low power core 2 duo, the chipset is probably very basic too. Putting anything that isn't a CPU in a socket isn't recommended either. lol

It's 775. the socket is so old, and the processors are so cheap that nobody cares anymore. 

 

There's nothing wrong with the tape mod. Loads have done it and been fine. As long as OP doesn't have buckets as hands he/she/it will be fine.
