My teacher gave me an assignment where im supposed to write about an old computer or something that has had a big impact on the computers history. What do you guys suggest i should write about?

There are a lot of terrific stories and documentations about apple.

EDIT: Maybe the part about the apple II and gates allegedly stealing software ideas. Was a dramatic turn in home computer development.Look at the global pc market today!

How about how the 'calculator wars' of the 70s created the foundation for the PC? 

Custom pinewood case, Corsair CX 600W, Rampage 3 Extreme, i7 980x (@4.2ghz) with ML240 Cooler,  MSI GTX 970, 24gb DDR3, 240gb OCZ Tr150 SSD + 2Tb Seagate Baracuda. 

 

Advocate for used/older hardware. Also one of the resident petrol heads.

How about how AMD was once a second source of Intel Chips back in the day. And how Intel licensed X86 to AMD and when they no longer needed AMD, AMD was able to create their own x86 chips and become Intel's competitor. 

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

No one's yet suggested the original proper IBM PC clone, the Compaq Portable? :P 

 

The original, colorful iMac is also significant.  At it's time of release it took PC's in a whole fully new, consumer friendly turn in design for what had mostly until then been 'beige boxes'.

Why dont you write about the competition between intel and AMD and talk about the evolution of processors. I think that this would be a great topic because competition between the two tech giants is quite interesting and I think it will raise a lot of questions about the controversy between AMD and intel. You could talk about the first processor to brake the 1GHz barrier or how intel licensed the x86 instruction set to AMD, or other increments of competition that has occurred in its own time between the two companies.

 

There are a lot of topics related to the history of computers, try talking about something tech related and find the history of that particular thing and talk about that.
