Windows 10 Fall Creators Update has a release date

Windows 10 Fall Creators Update will be released on October 17th 2017. Precisely 1 week after Build 10586 is no longer supported.

there are existing DCI P3 displays used on Windows 10 but my understanding is that they use custom firmware or something.

Yeah windows doesn't have native color management. So Microsoft definitely did some behind the scenes stuff to make that work without color accuracy going out the window.

I wish they gave the option to use the old control panel rather than the stupid settings app...

Also some better storage management (Where software is installed to, etc) would be nice seeing as many computers now has small SSD's as a boot drive and a large HDD for storage.

The old control panel is still available, just hit start and type control panel. There might be some settings only available through the new interface though, I'm not sure.

I just installed this copy of Windows last week, and it hasn't forced any updates yet. It's just lost it's GPU driver twice and randomly wakes up, even from shut-down. But no forced updates.

I had to disable updates while I was doing some crazy stuff with NTFS junctions to move my program files and users folders off of my boot drive, Updates broke the links and everything for some reason. Ended up just buying a 1TB SSD so that it wasn't an issue.

Sadly, that's exactly what each new major Windows 10 update has done to my PC, so far. Because of that, I'm going to update once before October 17, and then I'll not update my Win 10 boot for at least several months, maybe up to a couple of years, until it's time to do a fresh installation of Windows 10 anyway because I'll have all new system hardware. I'm tired of having to completely reinstall everything after each new major Win 10 update.

Disable Windows Update in Services. All the other Windows Update settings in Windows 10 are useless because they don't obey what a person sets them to.
