How to install Mac OS on a new SSD?

Hello there,

So I am currently about to start restoring a mid 2009 A1181 MacBook from faulty and want to know how I can install Mac OS on it. It does not have an HDD so I decided to buy an SSD for it but I can't figure out how to run Mac OS on it without previously having a version of it already on the MacBook. I have not received the MacBook yet so I cannot test anything butttttt...

 

Is someone able to tell me how to Install a fresh copy of Mac OS on it? - I have a Mac Mini if I need to use a restore drive in order to get the Macbook working (if need be)

just hold down cmd-r when you turn it on. this will launch recovery, which will download the correct up to date version of Mac OS X to the laptop.

it might be, i'm a little rusty on my Appleian Macinese.

Just checking... So I can use 'cmd-r' or 'option-r' without having an OS on it?...

yes, recovery is a part of the EFI.

Yes, it will boot into recovery and redownload osx

Ok cool, it's just that I have read that MacBooks don't have an actual BIOS without having some form of OS installed. I guess that's not the case then. Glad I checked xD
