Is the Armor 1080 just a reference 1080 with a 1070 cooler on it?

If I remember correctly, it was very bad. Horrible temperatures and likely thus quite loud.

It's a Gaming X with 1070 cooler i think

Our Grace. The Feathered One. He shows us the way. His bob is majestic and shows us the path. Follow unto his guidance and His example. He knows the one true path. Our Saviour. Our Grace. Our Father Birb has taught us with His humble heart and gentle wing the way of the bob. Let us show Him our reverence and follow in His example. These guys are making it confusing so ill get it straight.

the 1080 armor gtx comes with a founder edition pcb with the black cooler.  Its a little bit louder than the gaming x variant but its fine if you are looking for a light overclock.

now the 1080ti armor is where it becomes aweful. This one is loud, runs crazy loud and throttles down  to 1700mhz at load reaching up to 85c easy.

I know this because i bought this card specifically for the front plate and modded it with my old arctic accelero cooler and wired my noctua fans to it.

1080 Armour is a 1080 Gaming X PCB not a reference PCB........

Maybe this helps: https://www.forum-3dcenter.org/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=11103026&postcount=15

That guy bought a 1080 Armor~

I would say, Temperatures should be between 73-80°C, depending on your Case / airflow, and Room temperature.

If its 35°C in your room, yea you won't get the same temperatures, as another guy in Winter with 18°C :P

That guy had 72°C, tendency still raising a bit more. However, he only had a 1680x1050 monitor back then....

His Post was about Thermal Paste changing. He did that, and applied Thermalgrizzly Kryonaut. Temperatures were only 63-67°C then.

But yea... Only think that came into my Mind.

I would say: It's okay, as long your Plan is NOT to max OC the Card.

The Armor is a GREAT Model, if you undervolt it.

For example, don't let it run at 1.05 Volt with 1900 Mhz, but rather 0.9 Volt with 1920 Mhz~ or something like that ;-)

Undervolting (and whatever the stable Clock speed there is) reduces Temperatures a LOT.

I have the MSI Gaming X, and in hot days, it reached 78°C just like that. 1.025 - 1.031 Volt, 1961 Mhz, 5000 Mhz Memory.

With Undervolt (0.800 Volt, 1823 Mhz, 5500 Mhz Memory) it lost like 5-8% performance, but Power consumption reduced from 200-220 watt down to 130 watt~, Temperatures were below 70°C, and Fans went from up to 1700 rpm (which will be at 78°C+), down to <1300 rpm~.

So a HUGE difference, for a very minor performance difference.

With 0.85 Volt or 0.900 Volt, you can break 1900 Mhz already, and still have a pretty cool Card with a low Power consumption.

GN did a 1080Ti video with the Armor version:

Basically, don't get the armor version. The cooling is poop regardless of model. Only get it if you plan to rip off the cooler and get a custom water block for it, because the PCB is identical to the much more expensive Gaming X series of GPUs.

Ye ole' train
