Audio system help

I live in a college dorm and I wanted to make a small audio system for my room. I did some research since I don't have a lot of budget (150$ max); that I can buy self-powered speakers ( for example Edifier R1280T) and I could connect them to a mp3 player and this could serve as a nice audio solution for my room. I would like to know if this is possible and of course if there are better ways to make an audio system for the budget mentioned above, please share it with me. Thank you!

It would work fine. Could also recomend looking into a PC speaker setup with sub for that price. Their not as bad as one should think. I'm often supriced over a couple of cheap Logitech I have, and how fun they are to listen to, even compared to my livingroom setup with real floorstanding speakers many many times the price of the Logitech set.

Sorry for the few off Capital letters in my posts, it does it on its own when I Write in English, since my OS is in another Language. It's annoying.

Buy used Z5500 and blast the windows out of the room :D

I respect your opinion; however, it would be rather difficult to find something used for sale since I'd need to get it from the Netherlands, or at least Europe since I am studying there because import costs and shipping from the US would be too much. If you have another idea feel free to share it.

Ma boy, i live in the netherlands.

I received a used pair for 80 Euro from marktplaats.nl today and its the best 80 euro ever spend.

Just look for the people who misplace ads or don`t know prices like an second hands store.

Or if ur dutch (kringloop winkel) peeps drop expensive stuff for low prices all the time.

I am not Dutch, I just study in NL, but thanks a lot for the reminder to check on marketplaats. I did see many offers of surround systems and speakers it's just I am not really experienced in this area and I can't really spot out the "expensive" stuff that you're talking about that people are selling; I'll keep on searching but if you see something interesting, please share the link :D

Should be to hard to find it second hand here in Europe. The Z5500 is a great system, spesially when used analog. I used to recommend it for those who was looking for a home theater setup around 500 bucks, and that was when it cost half that. And a tip, the speakers of the set works even better with a better amplifyer. When I had it, I testet them with my Sony receiver that cost 1700 USD, and they sounded way better than with the logitech amp.
