Is a Alienware 17 r2 worth it?

Yessno

Been looking for a laptop to come across with a warrenty that's a fair price. He at first wanted 1400 but he has 1200 on his post now. Comes with the transferable warrenty. Any suggestions on if this laptop will play newer games on the highest settings without having trouble? Also if the 980 being outdated is anything I need to take into consideration.

Thanks in advance for all the help:)

OKay update: so a lot of the comments have been hate comments which is not what I have been looking for. I said in the post he actually was already talked down 1200, and possibly even more.

Im always on the move and I also work in the oilfield so I just can't carry a built pc around in my truck 24/7 and there's where the laptop comes into equasion.

What i I want to know is if a newer laptop at the same price with a 1060? Is better or it's better bang for my buck with this laptop. Not why Alienware sucks or bring apple into it lol.

Alienware + Worth it

Your paying for the name so youd get the same spec for less with out Alienware slapped on it, so if the name means enough to splash the $$$ go for it

personally i would build my own

I wouldn't buy an Alienware new. Too much of the "pay for the name" thing going on. Not as bad as Razer, but still there. That said, and assuming that's USD, if you can get him down to $900, I'd consider that a solid buy. A quick glance on eBay suggests that they're going for about that, maybe a little more. Just make sure that the battery holds a charge, the panel is full 1080p (not 1366x768) or better and the transferable warranty is actually transferable.

Buy a new Alienware. I'd get the 15R3 with the 1070.

For all of the Alienware nay-sayers, give me legitimate reasons why you dislike them.

well design . build quality is good, gaming experience  i guess is ok with solid temp and noise, but then why get a laptop instead of desktop. its heavy and bulky as fuck. lots of alternitives out there. specwise overprice indeed . even the design some might avoid cuz it looks too gamee hehe . not the best battery life thick bezel .. its targeted for only few maniacs u should consider if it fits ur needs

Nice one!

I get 8 hours doing work related stuff with my 6700HQ and 1060 6Gb machine on the 99Whr battery.  Point me to a gaming laptop that can match mine in terms of battery life.

Spoiler: You probably won't find one.

On Newegg 6700HQ 1060 laptops handily hover around or go below $1200, although it's mostly MSI laptops and they're not too good.

This is the lowest 15" 1060 6gb I could find that was an MSI machine.-LINK

I'm still asking for someone to find a 15" 1060 6Gb i7 machine that gets 8 hours on battery OR has a battery size similar to mine (99Whr).  The one that I linked you above has a tiny 57Whr battery.

My statement still stands-Alienware is the gold standard for gaming laptop battery life.

Just stop there.

Apple is focused on aesthetics over performance and practicality.  Alienware is not.  Razer is like the Apple of the gaming laptop segment.

xps 13 is nowhere NEAR a gaming laptop. Even the XPS 15 is not a true gaming laptop with only a GTX 1050
