Which power supply to use?

lexidobe

I have this bad habit of watching Craigslist like a hawk weather I need something or not, and I found a new Corsair AX860i in the box with the reciet and all the cables for $40. The guy had it for 2 months in the box and then decided to go 3 way SLI and needed quick money for a bigger PSU, He never even opened it! I tested it and it works perfect. My question is should I replace my HX750i with the AX860i? My system has a Core i7 6800K and GTX 970, and it only draws about 360 watts from the wall. Is the AX860i a better PSU than the HX750i? Thanks.

If you don´t need it, don´t replace it is my opinion.

It just comes with a hellhole of new cablemanagement and stuff like that, you don´t really need a bigger PSU anyways :)

No keep the one you have, the bigger PSU will only run less efficiently. Keep it for when you upgrade and need it or flip it for cash

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

While the AX is a bit better, the HX is still good. You have no reason to upgrade, you'd just be spending money for the sake of it.

I bought it. It won't cost me anything to upgrade.

Ah, if you already have it, might as well switch it out. Both are good, so maybe use the HX in another system or just keep the AX for the other system and save the trouble of switching it out. Really, both are very good so there's not much difference between which you use.

I'd say just sell it for a profit, someone will probably buy it for more than $50.

Well, no.

The AX860i doesn't offer you that much more than your HX750i already has.

Both are 80plus Platinum, the HX750i is way younger than the AX860i (wich is rather ancient and came in 2012 or something like that)...

Also the HX750i has a better fan (IMO), the AX860i only has some off the shelf Yate Loon ball bearing unit...

So no, there is no reason to do that. And the cables are incompatible as well, if I'm not mistaken...

I don't see you benefit in any way by replacing that PSU...
