Currently? Yeah but not on Android afaik.

And if you have to decide between a phone and a laptop, you probably either really need a laptop badly (but don't want to pay for it) or you really don't need a laptop.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

Currently? No, not really... I mean you can connect a Bluetooth keyboard and start Mobile version Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).. or use the touch screen.

In the future? Yes. Maybe. But the best thing coming up that is what you want, is a convertible phone running Windows 10 which Microsoft is experimenting with internally. A phone that can convert into a tablet. So, if apps are critical for you, and there is no web site that you use (through Edge), then that would be another problem to expect, unless it takes off (it won't, it will be probably be very expensive, and probably no carrier plan). Apps available when such device will be released are the ones found in Windows 10 Store where they are marked to run for Mobile (So, Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Skype, Spotify, Viber, Netflix, Instgram, Twitter, Pandora, Fitbit, VLC, and few others, beside Microsoft Win10 ones (Groove, Movie & TV, Store, Edge, Mail, Calendar, Mobile Office, Office Lens, Remote Desktop, etc.)

Maybe not, but even then you'd require a dock, keyboard, mouse paired with the keyboard, and a monitor.

I know my Galaxy S8 has something similar to what you're looking for, based off of the Android OS. But if you're looking for a foolproof way to just use your phone itself, then you're going to have to wait a few more years.

right now only windows phones can do this. so im afraid you'll have to wait for the tech to mature, or switch to windows :P

i am pretty sure you can put linux on your android phone and either find some drivers for touch screen if there is none by deffault

you could, but unless you go dualboot that would take away all phone functionality of the actual phone. but i'm sure you could, seeing as android is pretty much a linux distro anyway.

It entirely depends what you need to do.

  • Are you just browsing the web, replying to emails, etc? Then yeah, your phone can replace a laptop.
  • Are you using it for Excel spreadsheets and using Windows specific programs? Then no.

We kind of need more information ;)

I used my Note5 to edit many University essays, reply to work emails, post ads, basically ran a business from it. So it's possible.

It just depends what you're needs are. In general I find Android a poor replacement for Windows.

You can use Mobile Office with a bluetooth keyboard like @GoodBytes mentioned, but you really don't have the same level of interaction with it. Aside from perhaps Word, it's pretty basic.

IOS 11 might make Iphones more PC like, at least this is what I hear about the ipad pro, so I would think this would also apply to the IPhone, someone can correct me if I'm wrong. The apple A10 and A10x are extremely powerful. I think I read that the a10x beats a core I5 on some benchmarks.
