Windows 7 or Windows 10 for Gaming?

I am split between Windows 7 and Windows 10 for my gaming build. What one do you prefer?

Windows 7. At least you have full control of YOUR computer and aren't a "public beta tester".

Windows 10. Newer, updates for longer, plays nicer with new hardware.

Windows 10 is newer and will get better performance....but

 

Its Windows 10 so my vote is Windows 7. If I would have known what Windows 10 really had in store for its users I would not have upgraded. But hey, at least I didn't give Microsoft $100 for an adware OS  (bought Windows 7 for like $20 and upgraded that way)

Windows 7 is basically XP, there's little reason to cling to it. People complain about privacy with 10, but it's not like that existed in Win7 either--if you legitimately cared for that, you'd be on a paranoid Linux distro like the one Snowden uses.

 

Gaming wise, you get the latest version of direct X and can actually use newer CPUs without some janky work around with 7.

Having the latest version of Direct X is useless if game developers don't use it. The game developers won't require Direct X 12 for a long time because many users are sticking with Windows 7 and 8.x. Windows 7 will become the new Windows XP for PC's that support Legacy Boot Mode. Vulkan may also be used by more developers so getting the latest games will be possible on older versions of Windows for at least another decade.

My machine doesn't have Candy Crush and telemetry can be turned off if you know what you were doing. Win7 had to have emergency patching because it was a liability. There's no real reason to drag Win7 out as an OS these days. If one doesn't want Windows, there is always Mac OS and Linux so it's moot either way lol

 

Win10 does things I don't care for (go away Edge I don't care for you) but going back to Win7 is a downgrade. Work computers made me kind of not like Win7 as much as I used to.

I've downloaded w10 since it was literally in the "beta" and agreed to try it out pre-release. Updating up to today's current "creators update" I have never once had "adware" or candy crush installed on my machine.

 

To OP: As you asked for what OS for a GAMING perspective, 10 will allow you to play games like Forza Horizon 3 and the upcoming Forza 7, and sync with your xbox account (if you have one). That alone is a pretty nice feature to have, not to mention the longer span of security updates you'll be receiving.

 

It will also save you time the moment you decide to try and "upgrade" from 7 to 10, as without clean installing, you'll probably run into issues one way or another.

Unless you're like me and don't have an internet connection 75% of the time. It does let you have fun uninstalling it all. The Minecraft is okay, since you can play it for an hour or two on demo, then uninstall it.

I made an image that removes all that stuff upon creating a user account. I'm good to go. (If I ever had to roll back my pc) *Knocks on wood*

The Windows Store is a disgrace! It is full of a bunch of low-quality apps. It's buggy as hell and very bloated. All of the good apps that were on the Windows Store have been removed. The Windows Store is also broken on Windows 8.x.

Yup. It's pretty pointless, considering everyone on Windows is used to downloading their stuff online. 

 

And we may be able to dump Windows in the future, since Mac seems to be moving towards gaming optimizations and stuff... maybe there'll be nice games for Mac in the near-mid future.

"All the work" being running a powershell script and imaging it isn't too bad. Maybe 10 minutes and then walk away while the image is created.

 

Even w/o doing what I did, it probably only takes another 10 minutes to clean up your PC after a clean install. Sure it sucks, but if you are going to use the PC for 1, 3, 5 or more years then 10 minutes is a worthwhile investment to clean it up.

The powershell script I use has an option to remove the store too, if you so desire.

Vs an OS like macOS or Linux where you dont have to do anything.
