I always had a "GAMING" headset, Planning to switch it up and need help

Hi LTT!

I always used a Gaming Headset and mine are starting to fall down so I am looking if it's time to upgrade to a real pair of headphones instead (Not spending thousands on this nonono max a few houndreds in total),

Here's the thing, I am currently using a Logitech G633 and I've always had the 7.1 surround sound activated on it since the start, and I don't know if it's bad or good but I like it honestly, Maybe because that's all I heard since I got them?

If I now would pick up a "normal" pair of headphones, I assume I just will get stereo speakers since there is no software to simulate 7.1 surround sound, will this be "bad"?

Currently it's just as easy as this for me to active this 7.1 sound (Is it better to just play stereo?)

In my eyes shouldn't a virtual 7.1 sound help you identify where the enemy is faster around the map since this will kinda help you a bit to locate where exactly the enemy is, Or is this completely wrong?

I would appreciate any kind of answers and suggestions and info about stereo vs 7.1

With my best wishes

7.1 is BS, just a marketing gimmick, you can easily tell enemy locations with stereo. What's you budget for a headphone upgrade?

You have two ears and you're covering them with two ear "muffs". You're not putting a halo space-ring around your head and therefore you don't need 7.1 surround.

Completely up to you.

For me, it depends on how the games themselves have set their sound up. Some games do have Dolby or DTS or whatever and it makes sense to use it if the difference is appreciable, but mostly I set surround modes on a per-game basis.

I play with stereo and I don't have any issues identifying where enemies are in CSGO. At the distance your headphones are from your ears, "7.1 surround" doesn't sound very different from stereo. If you think about it - are you really able to tell the difference between two speakers that are a centimeter or two apart when they're right next to your ear?

I actually couldn't underclock my 5 year old GPU to make it as slow as a next-gen console.

If you want the closest to "surround" sound then you're gonna want open-back headphones with a ton of soundstage. If Audio Technica AD900Xs fit on your head (AKA you have a big head) then they're a phenominal choice. If you have more to spend then the Phillips X2s are good with a bunch more bass.
