Sure i7 7700k might be better in that program for 10-20%, but it also costs more than Ryzen 8 core CPU.

In other programs Ryzen would be better.

And not to mention thermal problems from 7700k ... according to Intel you shouldn't even OC it, so there's that xD

For editing and gaming I would always go with Ryzen.

hmm yeah. but for 2500 pc one should invest in a decent cooler regardless.

Yeah that's no the case when it comes to rendering in other programs.

For editors and creators, it's better to have more cores in general.

While that's true, i7 7700k have thermal problems because it's not soldered to IHS and Intel used too much adhesive.

Also 1151 is dead platform. So you are stuck with this CPU if you buy it now.

If you go with Ryzen now, there will be atleast zen 2 and Zen3 still on AM4 platform.

1700 will be better overall, especially doing pure rendering work on programs such as Maya.

Pretty sure you got that wrong, if I remember correctly Maya is quite single threaded. 3ds max on the other hand is very multi threaded.

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

mostly GPU, rendering complex scenes will take advantage of CPU

 https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/AutoDesk-Maya-2014-Professional-GPU-Acceleration-509/

intel started pushing toward better multi threaded CPU support
