My question to the best community on the internet!

dylandylandylan

**snip**

What CPU or CPUs are the best for video rendering?

My question for you guys!
It takes way too long to render using adobe premier pro utilizing only my CPU. Should I go for a beefier CPU combo such as dual xeons with a workstation board? or should I go the more prosumer router and get a i7?
I can't utilize my graphics card because it's a HD7950 should that be something I change too?

I only trust one hair dresser with my hair, and I'll be back in my hometown soon to get my hair cut :P

Price vs performance? is it worth it to go workstation grade for rendering?

Is it a job or just a hobby? If its a job then yes xenons if its a hobby get a i7 extreme series.

Just a hobby, but if it starts paying for itself then I guess I could always upgrade eh!

does anyone have any links on performance figures for the i7 for rendering in adobe premier pro? I'll look into it at the same time, cheers!

Intel Pentium I or II is also good.

I have a few of those lying around, I wonder how long it'd take to render a video with just the CPU on one of those, or if it's even possible!

Aint Xeons more into server based stuff? Rendering then 2011 CPU's or 1155/1150 i7's. Wonder, if 1366 would still be good for this, but my guess is that it would...

You might be surprised. What were they, 600mhz or something?

300Mhz around about haha, It'd push my render times from my i5-3570k up from 20 minutes for a 5-8 minute video up to days ;)

Many professional editors that I've spoken to use xeons in their workstation builds, coupled with firepros or the nvidia equivalent.

Wow, another "what is the best <insert component> for <insert my task>" but in video form...

Is text that un-cool? And in a forum?

I roll with sigs off so I have no idea what you're advertising.

This is NOT the signature you are looking for.

Maybe - most of dude i know here (as in Poland) work on 2011 sockets CPU's. Still either youll get Xeon or i7 (2011/1150/1155) i think you should be fine.

Sweet I'll do a little bit more research on the topic and then I'll make my choice, I'm going to go from rendering one video ish a week to 3 a day over my summer break so rendering times is going to be a big component in my purchasing decision!

My i7-930 (pretty old) renders 1080p videos in Adobe at a 1:1.5 ratio, meaning it takes 1 minute 30 seconds to render 1 minute into H264. It's less than half the time of the video for 720p. A new one would hopefully be better than that, but I wouldn't recommend going extreme i7 as your price to performance just tanks.

If you're going to be doing lots of rendering, look into CUDA or OpenGL rendering, it can often be faster than processors depending on what you're doing, but I've never gotten CUDA to work on my 660 Ti...

Did you just create a video to ask a question?

It would have been faster to just say, "Which CPU is the best performance when it comes to video rendering?"

Why make a video? It's completely unneeded.

I wish I could use OpenCL for rendering, but I'm using adobe premier pro CS6, not the cloud version, which doesn't implement (to my knowledge) openCL aided rendering.

Post whoring? Sorry mate, but it goes both ways, you could have just as easily searched on Google or even search the forums for a topic about this.

Want a summary? Get a AMD 8350 or a LGA 2011 CPU.

Just because I have 3,000 posts in almost a year of being on this forum doesn't mean I post whore, your question was already answered, any input I give and anyone else would only be 3rd party recommendations on what you should get based on people's experiences. You're also violating #2 and #4.2 of CoC of LinusTechTips.com. No harassment, and no advertising.

Also, for future reference, you should have posted this in CPU's, Motherboards, and Memory sub-section of this forum.

Have a good day mate.

Thanks for those links, all I asked for.

I tend to ask on here, because sometimes there are people on this forum that are more intelligent that myself when it comes to hardware specifications.

Hardly harassment xD

I agree with you to a certain extent BUT sometimes there could be something that old posts have missed, I think it was ok for him to ask the question again, but perhaps a video is a bit over the top, but different xD

Also you weren't post whoring at all you or him ;)

PROFILEYEAH

What do people even put in these things?

Xeons

I'm not sure if it'd be worth it for someone like me (a hobbyist) to invest in a workstation board and dual xeons as of yet.

I did make quite a lot of money off bitcoin just recently, but I'm trying to be smart about where I re-invest my money.
