EKWB A240 (No GPU) and Coolants

Okay, where to start.

I plan on buying the EK Fluid A240 kit, mostly because it looks awesome, and its rather efficient. But i have a 980ti, so i have no need for a gpu block.

So my first question:

Is it a worthy upgrade over my current H100?

Second question:

On EK's premix bottles (the 900ml), do i have to add anything else, or is that all? (seeing as i get the 100ml concentrate in the kit)

A) having a 980 ti is a good reason to get the gpu block, they OC like a beast when you have the cooling for it

B)  Bitwit did a great video, he replaced a nzxt x62 and a hybrid cooled gpu with the a240g and it was the same temp as the Kraken... while cooling the gpu at the same time!

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

The A240G doesn't have a 980Ti block option AFAIK

Is it a worthy upgrade from the H100? I think so, but only if you plan to expand it by adding a GPU to the loop. EK said they will be releasing more aluminum parts later this year. But that won't be for any 900 series cards I guess. Maybe if you ever going to upgrade the GPU to a 10xx or newer. They will probably make an aluminum block for the Volta GPU's. 9_9

About the coolants. With their premixed stuff you don't need to add anything else and with the concentrate you only need to add distilled water.

That's true. Depending on OP's config the Define S can actually support 2 240mm rads so it IS an option but will look stupid AF.

Maybe, maybe not.  It could look really slick with one of the corsair adapter brackets on there.

Also, its a Strix 980ti, so if one of the Kraken or Corsair brackets work, then i may repurpose the h100.

Ahh okay, thanks anyway. I think clear fluid for now, with clear tubing. Might add a dye later on.

Are there any recommended dyes?

Solid, I think clear tubes look the best regardless of coolant (sometimes frosted, but still clear).

IDK about dyes tho sorry

I would recommend Mayhems dyes. I'm using them for quite a while now and never had any issue with them.

Oh, and you might want to add their `X1 - Clear` concentrate to prevent biological growth in your loop.

Would a Mayhem's dye work with distilled water?

If OP intend to use the included coolant in the A240 kit, he can add Mayhems dye and that's it.  He doesn't need any biocide since there's already biocides in the concentrate.

So 900ml distilled water + the 100ml concentrate in the kit, and then i can add any dye to that? Thanks

Yes, that's it. (In my previous reply I was assuming you would be running distilled water only)

You are right about that, I suggested Mayhems X1 - Clear in an earlier post as that is safe to use with aluminum.

Would XT-1 Purple be okay for the rads, as i know you recommend X1 (what's the difference? )

XT-1 contains ethylene glycol and is not compatible with PETG tubing and Primochill Advanced LTR as they have stated that on the bottom of the following page:

https://mayhems.co.uk/coolants/xt-1-coolant/xt-1/xt-1cc/

X1 contains a blend of refined vegetable extracts and is safe to use with any type of tubing.

as long as it isnt a problem, then i can get the XT1 Purple and use it with EK soft tubing?

Last question, is Mayhems Ultra Pure H2O compatible? Dont wan't something that can cause an issue

Not with their TUBE PrimoChill PrimoFlex™ Advanced LRT I'm affraid. Also not sure if it's fine with their DuraClear tubing.

For distilled water just go to your local grocery store if they sell it there. Much cheaper and just as good as the Ultra Pure H2O...
