I honestly don't have a budget, and I'm looking for a mid to a full tower either one would work.

colour? HDD/DD/optical drive mount support? water cooling support? windowed panels/Tempered glass? brand? desired price (i know you said no budget, but that doesn't mean you would be equally okay with spending $100 vs $500)? like @Max_Settings said, there are literally hundreds of choices if you don't help us narrow things down.

Practically any decent case with a few fans can do the job perfectly fine (since you say you don't really have a budget or preferred look of tower), just as long as your cable management is alright but it still doesn't make much of a difference anyway.

Also why was this posted in the general discussion? Should have been posted in the 'Cases and Power supplies' section of the forum found here:

Most mid to high-end cases these days have more than enough fan mounts in the appropriate locations (with a few exceptions). Just watch some reviews to get an idea (or just look at them).

What's arguably more important is to make sure you have enough fans and that they are all mounted and moving the air in the same uniform direction. Typically intake through the front and bottom, and exhaust out through the rear and top. You'll also typically want slightly more intake flow vs exhaust for a slight positive pressure inside the case. This can be achieved by optimising the fan speeds or simply running more intake fans than exhaust fans.

Looking to rehouse my i7-3770k build, in preparation to update the CPU + Mobo sometime in the next year.

Looking at something simple like the Define R5 at the moment. Sound dampening isn't necessary, but willing to cash out a bit extra for it.
Something future-proof is nice. Doesn't seem like dropping 800+ dollars on a i7-7700k, z270 chipset and new DDR4 is justifiable with the i7-3770k still pulling benchmark figures only 20-30% lower for an upgrade today.

What are simple flagship cases that are the "go-to" for builds these days? It's honestly been almost 6 years since I last did a build, I'm extremely out of the loop in new components. I honestly was about to walk into a store and ask for a Define R4, didn't even know until earlier today the R5 superseded it... 2 years ago.

The Define R5 came out in 2015, I'm concerned it might be a bit dated. Are there other options to look into? I'm fine with just a few names, then I can go research for myself.

Looking for nice and simple cases to house air cooled components no stringent requirements at the moment.

This is what my current build to be ported over is currently using, in regards to tower compatibility needed:

-1x PCI-E slot

-1 Large CPU Air Cooling tower (Noctua NHD14)
-2x SSD bays, 2.5'

-1x HDD bay, 3.5'

-Non-modular PSU, tons of cables everywhere, good cable management options MANDATORY!

-A side-exhaust GTX 680 that exhausts heat up towards the Main-Side panel http://www.tomshardware.com/news/gigabyte-gtx-680-windforce-oc-gpu,15955.html

Optionally, I still have a 5.25' Optical drive which i've refrained from tossing into the bin, but if the new case has room I'll rehouse it too.

TL;DR,

Normal, basic case, must have decent width to house tall air cooler.

Sound dampening is a bonus

Side-Panel window is a bonus

Side-Panel Case-Fan mount is a bonus

5.25' Bay is a bonus.

Mid-Tower preferred, bigger is fine.

Willing to spend about $200, $150 range preferable.

Also: what is the go-to pressure-optimized 140mm/120mm case-fan these days? Might need a couple of those puppies too. I really like replacing most default case fans with silent, high performing Noctua fans.

-snip-

The R5 was updated with the Define S

Other Go-To's are the Phanteks P400 and NZXT S340 (both have tempered glass options, you can see the S340 in my blue build)
