Easy. The income from Lexar dropped from being just about 50% (half) of 31% of their income, to being 40% of 31% of their income.

Ouch!

Turns out that Lexar and Sony are the only one making XQD cards for Nikon cameras. With Lexar out, everyone needing the cards are at Sony's mercy:o

Ah, okay.  Thanks!

Still dropping 12%+ of ones profit is a bit hard to understand.  Higher margins are nice and all, but on the surface "Cutting off one's nose in spite of their face" would seem to apply.

I actually really liked Lexar USB drives. I have a few on my desk right now. I guess they weren't premium quality, but they were affordable. Oh well...

Heck, the little stinkers do a good job.  Still have a old 1GB one that still alive.  Though, I do have the big 128GB one for travel.

This isn't the whole story though. Lexar has been on a steady downwards spiral for them, and is just going to continue down faster and faster. They're in a state right now where they're trying to consolidate their business and moving away from Lexar, while costly, has the potential to help their other high profit ventures immensely. This is especially true during NAND droughts like we have right now, where every Lexar drive they manufacture is a higher margin drive that they're not manufacturing.

Because you don't contribute anything relevant or of any value to the discussion when you come into the thread and basically say "i don't care lol"

I really want to but mom doesn't have money and I don't have enough money, and my dad is saving up for a 1060 for me so I'm not even gonna bother nagging him.

Maybe grandma will pay me for all the yard work I'm doing for her, though I doubt it since  she gave me 100 bucks cash for college last week...

You should go around your own neighborhood and do yard work, mow lawns, fix decks, fix fences.. Its easy money. Just say you are saving for college and you live in the neighborhood. It truly is easy money. I made a boat load of sick cash when I was 14 years old. I never incorporated until I was 22 yrs old.

It makes sense to me, you just have to read it carefully.

The report for the end of 2016 indicated that memory cards, USB, and other consumer components made up about half of the company’s income categorized as trade nonvolatile (i.e. ~50 percent), which was 31 percent of the company’s total revenue. In the second quarter of 2017, that number dropped to 40 percent.

The failure to make the first number a percentage is probably what confused you, but they're saying it dropped from around 50% to 40% of their trade nonvolatile income (whatever that means).  The 50% number made up 31% of their total revenue.
