Hi people.

If you have to choose between :-

1- 24GB of ram with 2133hz with no xmp support

2- 16GB of ram with 3200hz with xmp support

Witch one and why ?

 Thanks

24GB non-XMP, simply because the difference between RAM speeds aren't that noticeable as the difference between capacities.

are they same price?

for home I would go with 16GB because that'll match memory channels and I don't use more than 16GB

for work I would go with 24GB because it's more than 16

More RAM until your programs don't use anymore and then focus on getting the most speed that your build and budget will allow.

My vote goes to the 16GB [at 3200MHz].

No I have 8gb of ram 2133hz with no xmp and I bought 16gb of ram 3200hz with xmp , I want to know if I use both or just 16gb

But he is just gaming, there is no need for 24GB.

Nothing he does will use that much so the extra capacity is essentially useless.

manually overclock that 8GB

or just use the 16GB and try selling the 8GB stick

I didn't read that "Gaming usage" thing, but RAM speeds aren't noticeable in gaming neither. Personally, I have 16GB and it feels nice, but maybe 8GB of extra RAM could longer the PC's lifespan... I don't really know, it's a thought I just had.

Sorry I forgot to mention that for "Gaming usage" , so I edit the post after your replys . That's why you didn't see that before

Ram speed does make a difference though, you can see it in many benchmarks.

How much will depend on the speed and the game.

16GB will still be enough for at least another half decade so I wouldn't worry about needing the extra ram at all.

It's better to have a marginal performance improvement due to the speed rather than 0 improvement and a bunch of unused ram.

It's like buying a 20 thread CPU for gaming.

No games will use all those cores so they sit there and do nothing, which is why a 7700k is the best choice for gaming.

What CPU? If Ryzen, definitely 3200MHz.

If Intel/AMD FX, either. I would still go with 3200MHz though. 16GB is already overkill in most situations.

Then I would not mind too much. But as I said above, imo 24GB is useless :). Get the faster RAM.

That's not true.  They make a big difference these days, and not just in Ryzen.

They mattered before that, as I showed in a previous post.  But obviously it matters a lot more in Ryzen.

Weeeell. with Intel it only matters in a few games. Or if you're in a CPU limited situation. I myself had to give up 16g of RAM with Ryzen because with 32g installed I can get to 2933MHz, but with 16g installed I get to 3333MHz. Over a 10fps difference between the two. Wild times.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

RAM has mattered since Sandy Bridge. We just didn't have many programs and GPU's that could push the RAM to show benefits.
