Dodge vs ford

I can only think of two Dodge vehicles that I'd contemplate buying vs 7 or 8 for Ford.

Go buy a book called Lemon Aid by Phil Edmunston and you can read all about which vehicle is good and which ones are bad.

Every brand Ford, Chevy, GMC, Dodge has their reliable or good vehicles and every brand has their lemons.

 

I look at that book for guidance, plus I go to the junk yard to see how many vehicles are there that match mine or the one I want to buy.

If its newer then you have to call up a parts store and see how much calipers and pads are, how much a side mirror is, alternator, fan belt, fan blade, and other common repairable parts are. If they are fucking expensive because lets say you have an old BMW then dont buy that car. Newer cars now and especially imports are really compact and the time it takes the repair man to get at a simple job like an aleternator can be hundreds because they charge $100+/hour for their time. Dealerships are the worst. Neighborhood mechanics are a little cheaper but not much. And you wont be able to do the repairs.

 

Now you buy older say 1990 to 2000 or 2002, then the junk yard routine is a must. It tells you if parts are cheap and plentiful at the junk yard or if you have to buy from the dealership. Also it tells why the cars are there in the first place. This is where the book comes in handy. Its a non biased informative opinion, plus the author is an advocate for car owners rights.

Another good idea is to look at the recall list, and the TSB for the car.

 

Its not a "Is Ford better then Dodge" question, because you got Ford fanboys and Dodge fanboys and people who dont fucking care either way what brand they drive.

 

If you dont want hassles then buy new, you will lose more money.

If you dont want to lose more money then buy an off-lease and you wont lose as much as buying new but you still lose money.

The smart buyer looks at their needs now and in the future, does research, and buys a 10-15 year old vehicle, fixes it themselves or atleast does all the maintenance stuff themselves, and wants to learn how to fix it themselves and tries it.

 

I have boughten $500 vehicles that lasted 10 years.

Now if you are nit picky and bitch and moan about the heater blower is whining, or the belt is whining or the pads this or that. Then waste your fucking money on something newer.

I wish the Focus RS would drop in price a little... Either way, it will be my next car definitely. (Mostly since one of my friends bought the exact make/model of car I've been eyeing up, and I'd rather not drive the same car as him lol)

It's not reliable. Hell, their brag about the Duramax Engine is that it hits 500K miles, which is completely average for diesel engines. The only thing the Silverado has going for it, is looks.

Ah, I see. Though to be fair, there are lots of diesel engines that have been problem prone. Ford Powerstroke anyone?

Depends on which powerstroke you're talking about. What Ford currently sells, and the 90's Powerstrokes that are everywhere, are great engines. A 7.3 V8 Powerstroke was nearly bulletproof.

Navistar 6.0 and 6.4 killed the powerstroke name. 6.7 is really solid right now.
