Whats the most likely thing to wipe out the human race?

Alright, guys. I'm actually really curious on what everyone's opinion on this topic is going to be.

What do you think will wipe out the human race within the next 100-1000 years???

If the human race gets wiped out in that time frame, it would probably be from nuclear war.  100-1000 years is a very short time when you are talking about an entire species.

Maybe a super virus?  Even that is unlikely to kill 7 billion humans.

A meteor strike perhaps?  But we already have theoretical ways to counter that.

Everything else that I can think of relates to those in power being idiots.

Some really powerful nukes (or a bunch of smaller ones) and the following nuclear winter. Some humans will live for awhile but slowly die off as the planet becomes uninhabitable.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

So true. Last year I was really interested in Yellowstone and how much damage it could do. it could affect millions and millions of people through ash clouds as well as affect the world's food supply. Turns out it only has a 1/700 thousand chance of going off within the next 100 years

thats why nukes scare me. once they have launched there is little to no chance they can be intercepted and destroyed. especially ICBM's

It's true that as devastating as that would be, It still would have a minimal chance of wiping out the human race.  We are hardy if nothing else.

The most likely way that the human race will go extinct (other than nukes) is that we will be replaced with what evolved from us.  Just like how homosapians replaced neanderthals.

Hmm yes, that's actually very true. but what do you think will be the biggest catastrophe we will see in our lifetime?

Donald Trump being president?  Bad jokes aside, probably something nuclear related, Fukushima was pretty recent.

As far as natural catastrophes go, I'm not sure.  I remember the damage that hurricane Katrina did to New Orleans.

Fun fact, I was in that hurricane.

Noticing how my neighbors reacted when the power shut down for a day, I'm going to say loss of energy. I've never seen so many pizza deliveries (I'm sure one was Olive Garden) in my life. I literally grilled a steak and some sausages and used the fireplace for light.

Nuclear war is probably the most likely. Mass disease is also fairly likely, but there will probably still be at least some people left after that (i.e. the Black Plague).

Edit - Actually AI/robots could become a serious issue.

I didn't think about that.  A self learning AI going rouge could be a problem.

Ourselves.  Or AI, whichever happens to come first.

Honestly, a world ending nuclear war will never happen. Everyone, despite any political commentary understands that absolutely everyone loses tremendously. Nukes will only ever serve as a utility, deterrent, and terrorist weapon for the rest of our society's life.

The only event I could see truly having a chance to completely and totally wipe out the human race would be something like a comet striking the earth and completely annihilating the surface. But even then there are a plethora of ways we could stop that from happening, like attempting to alter the trajectory of the comet with ordinance of some kind probably.

Earthly diseases and viruses can no longer entirely eliminate all human life, period. We're well past that point now.

Read an article recently about an AI that Google engineers use to write AI, apparently it has now become better at writing new AI's than the engineers who made it... Not a good sign.

I don't know about that one. We've had quite a few superbugs in recent years that have become so due to our, admittedly excessive, reliance on antibiotics rather than going over health choices (nutrition and exercise) as a society.

There are places like Manizales, Colombia where the altitude is high enough, cold enough, and whose terrain is difficult to travel, yet they don't have many doctors and everyone is healthier whereas here, in the USA, everyone drives and gets sick constantly.
