because when a tool for anonymity is publicly available, it can be used for malicious purposes.

think about it - if you were a spammer, you could use the IPs of many, many exit nodes to spambot forums.

deal with it. use a VPN.

I'll never use a VPN.

Any information that isn't sent over a secure connection is still in the clear by anyone who is eavesdropping between you and the entry node or the exit node and the target server.

Also as others said, using a TOR slows your internet connection down. Possibly moreso than a VPN (I can still watch HD streams over a VPN halfway around the world just fine).

Surely bouncing your connection around TOR and hoping to get an exit node on the same continent as the target service is just as slow, if not slower, than a commercial VPN service?

Using a VPN isn't terrible advice.  And while your reasoning for using Tor to access LTT isn't my business, you aren't gaining much by using Tor to access LTT unless you are being tracked by some group that wants to hurt you, so thoroughly that if you exposed yourself openly on the internet your location would immediately be leaked, in which case I advise getting help.

Many people use Tor for very legit reasons but it's also used for cyber-crime.  And that means it's wise for LTT to restrict Tor use on their website because they don't know any information about who is connecting, and it's using the Tor network which is often used for cyber-crime. I'm sure you know about networking.

Why not setup your own VPN?  While I'm pretty dumb compared to other IT people, I know of some people that need anonymity and are actually wanted by law enforcement who say Tor is most likely compromised and they rely on VPNs.  The only reason I could imagine you using Tor over a VPN is because you require Tor's ability to refresh IP addresses constantly.

So do the ones that cost money. Difference is that the free ones tell you that they're keeping logs, while the ones that cost money tell you that they don't keep logs.

But both keep logs.
