Why does everyone reccomend overlocking 1600 vs buying 1600x

As it says I don't get this, given the silicon lottery we all knwo of assuming you can get simmilar speeds from the 1600 seems like takign a chance. Plus it can lwoer life span. I also find overclocking to be better as a life extension option not a planned start point usually. Now I mena it's up to each person but i guess I jsut don't understand the seemingly universal state of "just buy a 1600 and overclock it!" Soembody mind helping me get this mindset?

I would recommend the X varieties if you're not tempted to overclock for fear of failure, but you'll have to provide your own cooler for any except for the 1500X.

You can usually OC those chip up to (Or very close to) the speed of the 1600x (Same applies =with the 1800/X). Overclocking doesn't really reduce the life of you compunctions any, at least not in any practical way (perhaps from 14-17 years down to 12 or so).

People usually recommend it because most 1600's can come within 95-97% of the performance of a well-OC'ed 1600X, while being a bit cheaper. Lifespan of CPUs are technically "affected" by overclocking, but the difference is so insignificant that you will have replaced the processor itself before it has a chance of dying. That is provided you keep voltage and temperatures under control.

 

Also the 1600 comes with the Spire cooler. I'm not sure if the 1600X includes one too.

all 1600/1600xs OC to 3.8Ghz with lower volts, 3.9 with medium volts, and 4.0 with possibly dangerous volts.

The 1600 has 99% chance to OC to 1600X speeds. They are nearly identical. The 1600X is only 400 mhz more.

Because the 1600x comes with no cooler, is 20 bucks more expensive and the difference in base clock is 400mhz difference. You wont lower life span enough that you'd have to worry about

@rn8686  and @ARikozuM  My issue is if you have to overclock out of the box it to reach that preformance level it feels lije to me as if you kidna did something wrong. as an engineer type I don't feel buying cheap to try and get the same preformance makes much sense. Like saying I need to buy tires for snow but it's cheaper to buy tires for sand and just do afew thigns to spruce them up.

A 3.7 or 3.8 ghz overclock isn't too hard, should only take 30 minutes of tinkering, max. Plus the 1600 comes with a cooler that can take you to 3.6 or 3.7.

 

If you don't wanna OC then get a 1600x, but it isn't too hard to do.

How? They are unlocked and motherboard supports it for the purpose of doing so. It is simply getting better value for money.

@DocSwag it may also be I;ve had very bad experiences with overclocking. I dislike tweaking voltages and such and spending tons of time getting parts to work right jsut cause I wanted to save afew bucks.

I think he means the benchmarks where the Ryzen chips equals the Intel chips only when OC'd and with fast RAM. 

 

It feels cheap in the sense that "if I have to do this, why didn't AMD do it in the first place?".

TDP and power draw targets, as well as offer multiple SKUs to meet the wants/needs of different customers.

I look at this cause I am consdiering my next built [planned for late this year or early next] to possibly be a Ryzen 5 build. I wanna do gaming and SOME streaming.

@JDE not finalized yet also if I have to overclock my memory to reach that full 3200 or 3000 it defeats the point. At which point an intel system may be preferible.

Yes you do have to OC but its through DOCP so its one click and tested to be able to OC to 3200.
