GTX 980 or RX 580?

Hello reader,

I need advice. I was going to buy an RX 580 (when it's actually available) and a Freesync monitor because i wanted to try it out and my current graphics card is dying.

I was settled for a 300€ RX 580 and a 150€ Freesync monitor, when I saw a used GTX 980 for 180€.

Now i got unsure, should i stick to my Freesync plan or should i buy a cheaper and possibly better 980, though without any form of adaptive refreshrate technology.

Can someone help me out?

Thanks in advance.

980, had a freesync setup but it was no different for me (then again, all my games were running at 70+ fps on 60hz)

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

Get the rx580 but change your monitor to the 29UM68-P and you're gold.

variable refresh rate is worth every penny so if you have no plans to buy a Gsync monitor then stick with AMD and get a freesync one.

Personally I would go with the 980 since it is a stronger card. But y'know listen to the other people xD

Go for the GTX 980 and get a better monitor.
