4670k upgrade, AMD or Intel?

Im starting to think my 4670k setup is due for an upgrade. Havent really kept up with all the new things thats been comming out since i actually bought my current setup 3-4 years ago, i mean i know the gist of it, Ryzen, Kaby Lake etc, but i really dont have a clue whats worth getting.

Current setup looks like this:

4670K

MSI Z87 GD65 Gaming

16GB 1600MHz DDR3

GTX 970

My machine mainly gets used for gaming and work, so i was thinking Ryzen 5 1600/1600x or 7700K, theres about a 90$ price difference between the 7700k and the 1600X. Been reading around a bit and im still not sure how good the Ryzen 5 is compared to Intel, also read quite a few concerns when it comes to the 7700K. I mean i would love to just go for Ryzen 5, mainly because i really hate the way Intel does business, but i obviously do not want to end up with something thats not worth it.

Would probably start out with upgrading the CPU, motherboard (obviously), ram, PSU and case.

Ryzen 7 3700x, MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX, 16GB Ballistix Elite 3600MHz, MSI RTX 2070 Super Gaming X Trio, Corsair RM750x V2

Well thank for you that, I was debating on whether I should upgrade my 4790K to something else but I didn't think I could justify it.

I put together a list with a 7700k, motherboard, memory, PSU, cooler and case, came to about 900-1000$, so probably around that.

Guess that could be an option, if i can find a 4790K wherei live :)

True, but most likely gonna chuck out the cooler for an AIO anyway.

This is the best idea I think.
Might be hard to find a 4790k tho depending on where he lives.
eBay is probably a good idea.

even a 2600k is still good compared to a 6700k or 7700k, laziness is strong on the mainstream market.

Still better than nothing

It can be used if the aio brakes and you wait for a replacement

if you are getting a new cpu i would get the 1600 otherwise get the 4th gen i7. i have only heard goo things about the 1600 so far and i have the 1700 and other than the growing pains that are basically figured out now with bios updates and whatnot i would say it is a beast of a cpu and can do anything I want.

That seems a good idea, so you only have to spend on the CPU.

That chip is quite expensive tbh, so you could consider used. By the way, I think your GPU is good enough.

If you can get the 1600 at a higher clock than the 1700, the 1600 is better for gaming.

Still running a 1080p 120Hz panel, so far it seems like a waste to upgrade from my GTX 970. Think i might just try and find a 4790K if possible, then upgrade my case and cooler, i badly need to get rid of my CM Trooper case that i hate and i also want to try out AIO instead of air cooling.

So probably 4790K, case and a Fractal Design Celcius S24 cooler.

I would 100% go for a used one, not gonna buy a new one unless i can find it cheap :)

4790K CPUs seems to go for 240-300$ used around here, that seems pretty damn high.

Even that way it's expensive though. The cheapest I found on ebay is 270$, while there is this new on discount but I don't know if they ship it to Denmark.

I mean a 1600X is 300$ around here, obviously i gotta upgrade motherboard and ram if i get that, but seems crazy to pay that much for a used "old" CPU.

Why not get a 4790K? You could also get a new GPU, like a 1070/1080, while you're at it.

Click the underlined text. You could get new for 280, if they ship to Denmark. Well, you could have to pay import tax or so, not sure about that.
