i know but that only works on thunderbolt with newer laptops.

This would be great for ppl that cant get a new laptop but have a old gpu laying around.

It is absolutely possible, my friend asked me about it and we did it. We even built a docking station for it from old PC cases. He liked it while it lastes, but sacraficing the Wi-FI card for it made it a little les justifyable after a year. In the end, he bought a computer. 

Note: we later on added 2 fans to each side for better airflow and to cool down the GPU. We failed to document it. However, de dock is up for sale right now if you want ;)

I wonder what the performance is like on one of these compared to other implementations? And how it might compare to other configurations and jury-rigged solutions?
