RIG : core i5 4590, gtx 980. I know its a cpu intensive game but I have friends who get better fps on a lower tier gpu and cpu
I have updated the drivers, set power management to maximum performance.

Hmm, never paid attention to that. I know it also has MSAA but never realized FXAA was there.

Yup. And it loves to fist your FPS.

Turn off FXAA. Set maximum performance in power savings, both in Nvidia Control Panel + Windows.

Also, what's your monitor's refresh rate? Right click desktop, screen resolution, right click screen, properties, go to monitor tab, and make sure the correct refresh rate is applied. If you have a 144Hz monitor, it doesn't really matter if you're getting 200FPS or not, because you will not see a difference between 144 and 200 (if your monitor is 144Hz that is). But if you're dipping below 144FPS, I can understand you.

Note that CS:GO calculates everything happening in the map, not just what you are looking at/aiming at. If you're staring at a wall, and let's say 10 grenades go off at the same time across the map, you will see a FPS dip.

Main:  1650 v2   @ 4,6GHz   -   X79 Deluxe                -   GTX 1080 @ 2000MHz   -   24GB DDR3 @ 2400MHz / CL10

I just got in a deathmatch to take a screenshot quickly, but i get the same fps on matchmaking as well. Ok i will disable FXAA, i have enabled max performance in nvidia, how do i enable it on windows? My monitor is 60 HZ. actually the fps keeps fluctuating a lot so thats the problem.

Remember to quote people when replying, otherwise we don't get a notification. To enable high performance in windows, do the following: Start, Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Power options.

If your monitor is 60Hz, there is no need for you to push 150/200 FPS, because you can't see more than 60 FPS (because of your monitors refresh rate). That means your GPU is doing more work, for no gains for your part. If you're getting an average of 170 FPS, that's more than enough for your monitor.

Keep in mind what I said in my post above, CS:GO calculates everything happening in the map, every movement, every shot, every nade, and that impact FPS for all players. Deathmatch or casual games with 18-20 players running around will naturally give you much lower FPS than comp 5v5, because of all the players. There's nothing wrong with your system :)

I keep asking myself this question for a lot of time: why do one need more than, like, 90-100 fps in cs, if this is not a 144hz display?

I remember some old threads, where people tried to get like 800 fps in cs 1.6 or source (dafaq???).

idk

FXAA won't do much... :P IT reduces fps by like 2-3% at best in general.

@paprikman Higher fps might lead to lower Input Lag. CS:GO is very sensitive to that. If you just use V-Sync no 60 Hz, gameplay will feel pretty sluggish. Btw, in Doom also from my experience. Other games feel just the same, like Witcher 3~.

Especially in Esport titels it can make a difference whether your fp is at 60fps, 120 fps or 240fps even if your monitor refresh rate is at 60Hz.

Example:

Your monitor refreshrate is 60Hz.

Your Computer renders at exactly 60 fps (no Vsync activated)

Each Frame your monitor gets the most recent rendered frame from your Computer. The most recent renderred frame can be in between 0s and 1/60s

(0s means it just got renderred). On average the frame shown on your monitor will be 1/120th of a second old. Which means on average there will be 8ms of "input lag".

Now your monitor still has a refreshrate of 60Hz

But your Computer renders at 120fps

Same math and we get to the point that on average the image shown on the monitor is 1/240th of a second old (4ms).

240fps the image will be roughly 2ms old.

In a game where reactions matter and people complain between a ping of 20 or a ping of 30 it may be important to get higher refreshrates.

Sorry for my rather bad english.

Greetings, noobwannabot

Ok, now I see why people usually tend to ban me, maybe due to my 150 fps, thx.

i doubt, it's because of that, if you really have a 60 Hz display. 60 Hz is just too slow for this kind of level.

However: Your Skill seems to be on  a very high level, despite having only 60 Hz.

If so, i really recommend a 144 Hz monitor ;) That will be a new World for you.
