Gaming CPU needed

4 hours ago, p.klokgieter said:

I'm not really following you guys anymore. The Ryzen should be MORE than enough for gaming atm. Overclocking it might be a option for the future, but atm not really needed. Atleast im guessing so? Based on what i've read/saw on youtube the ryzen 1700 + gtx 1070 runs 4k games smoothly, i'm guessing the 1600 should be able to do this as well? Correct me if i'm wrong tho.

Alternate ;)

You're fine. The issue is people lock onto fps verses playability or frametimes. Place people in front of a game with no fps counter or knowledge of the system in use, and they don't see a difference.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

sorry, in the future you can mark items as purchased in pcpp by clicking the gear icon

again FE card runs loud and hot, seems you haven't got it so get something else

psu can be kept, i was asking becase some cooler mastet psu are bad

also you haven't told us what ram is it as ryzen benefit a lot from high speed ram like the 3000mhz in there but not all can be overclocked to that speed so to ensure you get the most out of it check with memory list in motherboard support page to see if it is compatible

Checked before buying, its 3000mhz. Everything runs fine atm. This message is beeing typed from my new PC :)

How is an >i5< 7600k less than a ryzen 5 at a lower clockspeed performing less powerfull single thread performance for gaming? It is 100% not. If you deny this i need proof on you answer.

This video explains why R5 > i5

Please do not mislead people.

EDIT: It is not the title of the video but the reasoning is explained well in the video. Also a 1600 costs $30 less than a 7600k and doesn't require a cooler so in total its $60 cheaper and will last longer into the future.

R5 stil has less performance, however this is only in numbers i discovered 5-8fps avg difference compared to a better low fps on 1080p is amazing. That and cpu wise r5 outperforms 7600k all day, with higher ram even better. On 1440p gpu bound ryzens blow away everything. So yes and no, the ST performance still acts better, but it simply cant beat r5 even at higher clock rates. So im sorry but also glad that i asked you for proof, tho i obv dig too and allreay checked out very cool bechmarks of r5 ! Amazing chip. Thanks for your vid, tho i dont like TH or trust them that much in the first place.

Where do i mislead people? Hmm

So I've been always more of a Intel fan. But i'm building a complete new PC right now for a smaller budget than i actually want, but times are difficult.

A bunch of people have been recommending me the ryzen lineup instead of Intel. Mainly because i also develop apps and games. But this build will be focused more on games, and less on developing since i already have a laptop on which i develop at work. Only thing i will be developing on this build will be smaller side projects. (Let's say 90% of the time it will be used for gaming).

With the smaller budget in mind and the rest of the specs (not final yet) below. What would you guys recommend me? The ryzen lineup or Intel?

Budget 800-900 (already have a 750watt power supply and a case and 2 monitors)

General specs for my new build:

gtx geforce 1070 (unless that's really to expansive. Than i'll be going for the 1060 6gb)

16gb Ram

1 Tb disc (SSD wil probs come in the future due to the lack of money atm)

CPU: ????

Those are just the general specs i have in mind atm. Not sure which versions etc. But when i made a small build it brought me up to 1000-1100. Which is ofcourse a bit to expansive looking at my budget. In this build i used the intel i7 7700k 4.2Ghz
