can t wait for triple slot 12+'' gpu coolers (because that s what the 290 needs)

idk if a twin frzr cooler rly cuts it... (miles better than reference tho)

HIS IceQ X2 already cut it, so the Twin Frozt won't have any problems.

The 290/x ain't a freakin oven, it's hot, but not that hot.

it just gets faster the better cooler there is on it, so better cooler = win

I m thinking about the arctic cooling accelero extreme III size of cooler, it isn t that massive rly, most cases can fit 14'' gpu coolers, why not use that space?

Anything I write is just a comment, take is as such, there is no guarantees associated with anything I say.

Quote from Techspots website:

Update: Based on your feedback, I took the IceQ X2 cooler off the HIS Radeon R9 280X and stuck it on our R9 290 sample. Cooling was dramatically improved. The FurMark stress test maxed out at 76 degrees while the card never exceeded 63 degrees in Crysis 3 and Battlefield 4. So it seems as expected the board partners will be able to solve the heat issues of the reference card.

Sauce

76°C in Furmark is absolutely reasonable, there is no need for a huge Air Cooler, you have to remember that the Card has to support it's own weight and manufacturing a bigger heatsink is more expensive aswell.

A single slot reference ATI HD4850, now that was an oven.

This not a picture of R9 290. 290 series don't have crossfire fingers.

Valid point, but it is not a 280x  :)

Check the DVI connection on this 280x Gaming, they are not the same. There are blue accents

The only problem I can see with this being a 290 with an aftermaket cooler, is that it isn't actually a 290 with an aftermarket cooler. If you look at the top left, you can see the crossfire or sli fingers.

Crap, didn't notice that someone else had already said that. Anyways, the card will probably just have the same after market coolers as every other high end card, so yeah...

I wasn't expecting for new looks. All they had to do was to modify some parts to make it fit on the new GPU, they didn't even have to spend much on the design xD.
