980 ti and 1080p gaming

Purpledrank562

Will a gtx 980 ti be good for 1080p 60ghz gaming? Mainly GTA v and over watch? I don't want to get another card as I'm getting it for free. Just wondering if it will be enough or if I should try to sell it and save up for something more newer. It will be paired with my i7 7700k and hero ix mb. Another concern I have, I only have a 650 platinum p2 power supply. Would I be okay or do I need something stronger?

The 980ti is more than adequate for 1080p 60hz gaming

Good enough? It's a bit overkill for some games actually.

You are making it sound like a entry level PSU or something, this PSU should be more than enough, P2s are great!

Yeah, You will be maxing out games, and stuff. But I would suggest getting a 144hz later down the road. really gives a new experience.

(that is if your eye can tell the difference cause some people's eyes cant.)

Yah, later on I was planning on either 144hz or maybe 1440. Would the 980 ti still be able to handle it?

It would be enough for 1080p @ 60hz it can still serve you will IMO for 2-3yrs. As for the PSU 650W would be enough.

The power efficiency on Maxwell is still fantastic so yes a 650W PSU will be fine.

Not really...

1440p is where it starts to show some age, averaging around under 100 fps in high end titles.

(unless if you play games like CSGO, then you will be fine at 144hz 1440p on a 980 ti)

The new 1080 ti is something to consider for 1440p 144hz as that would do its job just fine.

The 980ti could still handle 1080p @ 144hz but it would only maximize the 144hz on games like dota2, cs go which aren't that much very demanding games.

OK, got it. As long as I'm still 1080 60hz I'll be good!! Once I upgrade my monitor, I'll start looking to upgrade the video card!

Thanks again everyone!!

It can easily max out games like overwatch and a few others.

@Castdeath97 That doesn't matter. Getting something for free to use yourself, and instead selling it... Them 980 ti's aren't cheap, so I consider the thought alone already a dick move.
