Coffee Lake 6 Core CPU spotted by WCCFtech

DELTAprime

"WCCFtech has spotted something" Uh huh...

But seriously, we really need to move on to 6c/12t mainstream i7's, with 4c/8t i5's and quad cores left to the i3's. I know that more than 4 cores for a gaming application is usually overkill, but people do a whole lot more than just game these days (often many things at once) and it would be awesome to see higher and higher core counts coming in, so long as we don't have to give up too much clockspeed. Basically, I just want to get decent render times without using all 16 threads...

A 6c/6t would make sense for an i5. The i7 can have HT and i3s will be 4c/4t or 4c/8t

If they'd pull this off next gen it'd be hilarious.

What choice do they have? The i3's can't be 2c/4t now because of Pentiums now being 2c/4t. They can't make the pentiums back to 2c/2t because people would never buy them and bitch to much. So i3's have to be at minimum 4c/4t. 6c/6t makes sense for i5 though it seems like to much of a boost, 4c/8t would be fine for i5's but the i7 has to be an 6c/12t then because 6c/6t would be to close to performance to the i5 I'd imagine and would be "worse" for gaming by a long a shot because of the no HT.

Coffee Lake sounds like a nice place to build a resort that exclusively caters to Canadian tourist. lol

But in all serious though I kinda live in fear that Intel is gearing up for some morally objectionable and legally questionable anti-competitive prices for the next gen. I am just a laymen but my diminutive understanding of anti-competitive commence legislation is: as long as they make a profit of their products they are not considered anti competitive.

So if they sell an i5-7XXX at like $300, and they make a (for illustrative purposes )  65% profit off the chip. Meaning the card only costed $105 to manufacture and bring to market or whatever. They pocket the $195. Goes to future RND, advertisement or whatever they want.

What if they decided to finish off AMD by marketing this 6 core coffee lake at a profit margin of 1.5%. Only charging $125 to the end user. Intel nearly bankrupted AMD before with foul play. I bet they can do it again and for good this time. When they have the monopoly the prices will return to normal and we will all be domed.

As hyped as I am to finally get away from quad core consumer i7's and i5's over the past couple of days of thinking about it I really doubt there will be any single core IPC improvement over Skylake since Coffee Lake is Cannon Lake without the 10nm process shrink.

The big question is will Intel come in at the same old prices with the 8700k costing $350 USD or will they try and kill any momentum of AMD by matching Ryzen prices.

Personally I don't know why people care what the cpu is called, as long as it has the core count I want, the GHz and overclocking capabilities that I want they could brand the thing as an ish!t and I'd still slap the go faster sticker on my pc and post the pics, lol.
