Ryzen 7 1700X VS i7-7700K

I want to upgrade my current build, I have an nVidia 1070, an SSD, a 2TB HDD, Power supply, and a Disk drive. So I would like to upgrade (buy) a new motherboard, CPU, RAM, and CPU liquid cooler. My entire build revolves around what CPU I get and I have looked at so many benchmarks and videos and still can't decide between the Ryzen 7 1700X or the Intel i7-7700K any help would be appreciated. I am using the PC mainly for gaming, but I will on occasion mess around with FL Studio and my Midi Keyboard.

whats your current cpu? if its better than a 3770 i recommend you staying put for now.

7700k is a t iny bit better than a 1700x, and you dont need the extra cores yet, since all you're doing is mainly gaming.

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

FL Studio wont tax either CPUs. If you're gaming, the 7700K still king. It's also a more stable platform for the time being.

The 7700K is also likely to overclock a lot better than the 1700X.

There is no way to tell which will end up being the better CPU 3 or 5 years down the line but as of now, for gaming and light content creation, the 7700K will do just fine.

If you play on more than 60Hz then the 7700k would be better but if you are at 60 or 75Hz I would just go for the R7 1700.

Don't get 1700x but 1700 pretty much the same OC capability for cheaper.

What CPU do you have right now?

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

What resolution?  What target framerate?

Unless you're aiming for high refresh rate (120 Hz+) constant FPS then Ryzen is the better choice.  That said, a R5 1600 or 1600X is probably the better buy over the 8 core variants for the vast majority of people.

I currently have an A10-7800 quad core at 3.1 GHz, I upgraded the RAM to 16 GB G.Skill Ripjaws but they are only DDR3.

Off of a recommendation from a friend I have actually been considering selling all of my current set up and the three laptops I have and I would get the Razer Blade Stealth with the the Razer Core: https://www.razerzone.com/gaming-systems/razer-blade-stealth#ultrabook-desktop I would get the 4K with the 512GB SSD, and I would keep my nVidia 1070 for the Razer Core, after selling everything that I have I would only be spending $300-$400 compared to the $700-$800 I would spend just to upgrade my current desktop.

That seems like a bad idea unless you really need the probability of a laptop as the razor core get about 70% of the performance of whatever gpu you put in there. I would honestly take a laptop with a gtx 1070 internally over the external gpu option.

i7 7700k is great for gaming, but it pains me that you will mostly likely need to delid it, if you want to play with OC at all.

However, I can't argue about gaming performance on i7 7700k. At least for now.

7700k is best for gaming but it's a firebreather you may see 90-100C temps if you overclock it without delidding.
