Corsair Hydro Series H100i v2 Rant

Kaybee

So I built my first PC ever last May (2016) and have been hooked since then and I check out the LMG videos everyday now.  I had a decent budget set aside for the build and decided to put at 240 mm rad in there for water cooling.  From what I could tell, Corsair seemed like a reliable company that makes good products..... nope.

I got a Hydro Series H100i v2 to cool my CPU and I really liked how low profile it was and the performance was great up until last week.  Those things are under warranty for 5 years... seems like they're pretty confident in their product and it must be pretty good quality, right?  Well my pump suddenly died last week and my CPU was bouncing around in the mid-90's before I realized it and freaked out and shut off the system.

My $120 high(er) end product with a 5 year warranty died in less than 1 year..... usually not such a big deal because I figured, I would just RMA it and get a new one for free... after all I had just RMA'ed my BenQ monitor and got a new one at no charge due to 1 tiny dead pixel in less than a week.  Not the case with Corsair... I have to pay to ship it back.  I'm a few thousand miles away from California so it cost $25 to ship via UPS ground....

Corsair charges me a $120 for one of their nice products, says it will last 5 years... it dies in less than 1 year and I HAVE TO PAY 20% OF THE ORIGINAL COST TO FIX IT... ARE YOU SERIOUS??? Am I crazy or is that total bullsh*t??

I will seriously never buy another Corsair product because of this crap... I even had some case fans picked out on Amazon to go with the ones from the water cooler... nope.  I will go way out of the way to not buy corsair in the future.   Has anyone else had a terrible experience with Corsair?

I haven't bought anything from corsair yet except a power supply. I'll keep that in mind though cause I live in Australia and I wonder what shipping costs would be to Australia.

Companies RMA differently. Corsair policy to charge you shipping which sucks. I had RMA a set of dominator platinum after half a year. If you don't like them, don't use them then.

So just because you had one bad experience you're never going to use a Corsair product?  I've been using their AIO coolers for a few years now, no problems so far.  And I'm sure there are many people out there who also have had good experience with their products.

Welcome to corporate North American companies. Please enjoy our products and promises, and don't ask us about the detailed steps you'll need to go through to get any kind of service from us. Also, you're paying for the service, so I hope you saved some cash.

So you'll find that this is the case for most companies when it comes to RMA's - even Apple will tell you to "just visit the Genius bar at an Apple Store" multiple times over the phone before they understand you don't live anywhere near an Apple store. (However, at least Apple will send you a prepaid box via UPS in most cases. :D) But most companies require you, the end user, to pay shipping one-way for warranty replacements, because it's not their fault you live far away from a service centre.

I'm not defending them - just saying it like it is. I've shipped an iPod Classic back to Apple, a failed Mushkin RAM stick, an MSI Radeon HD 7770 GPU, and most recently I have a case open with Canon Canada where I finally got the support rep to let me charge their Purolator account to ship a defective camera from West Canada to Ontario, because Canon Canada didn't think it would be important to, oh, I don't know, have a repair centre on both the East and West Coast... But in the first 3 instances, I've had to pay shipping one way.

While I certainly understand your frustration with Corsair, this is standard practice for most companies in NA, so don't hate on them too hard. If you send them another email asking for a manager or escalation, and you're nice about it, you might get someone who will waive the shipping cost by sending you a prepaid box or shipping label. Otherwise suck it up, and either sell it and buy a new one, or pay the shipping yourself like everyone else.
