Micro center didn't fix my laptop and damaged it.

Sentryy

I wanted to ask a few questions about the micro center "accidental damage warranty" I know someone on here was / is an employee at one of the stores or if someone has had the issue I am having and how it worked out for them

I just got my laptop repaired at micro center as part of the accidental damage warranty I bought. Will the warranty still be valid after that repair? (was the power jack)

But, when I got the laptop back and was putting it into the box I noticed about 4 or 5 scratches on the case which were not there when I dropped it off, there were also another 3 or 4 scratches on the bottom of the laptop. I spoke to a manager and he took down my information so the Servicing manager can call me tomorrow. Has this happened to anyone else before and what did they do? Did they just apologize or did they offer to fix it?

I will update the thread or post below how it goes when I get the call tomorrow from the service manager.

I am meeting with the service manager tomorrow to discuss because the part that was supposed to be fixed still is having issues (haven't told them yet) and that they damaged the cosmetics of the laptop

I like to kill hardware. In 2016 alone I have killed 20 Xeon 5160, and 10+ Pentium 4.

Regardless of the store, it's going to be your word vs theirs.  I always make sure to take pictures of any item I'm handing over to someone else.

I'm guessing you didn't.

I forgot to unfortunately. After the fact I thought I should because I almost saw it coming

I will say that overall I've had mostly great experiences working with Microcenter.  Hopefully they don't hassle you if it was legitimately on them.

It was legitimately them, I had one scratch on it when I brought it in and when I picked it up there was like 7

Well, it turns out that the part that was supposed to be fixed was not in fact fixed either

So they didn't fix my laptop at all they just made the problems worse with the scratches

Without pictures it's your word vs theirs, and the burden of proof is on you.

So I think you're out of luck with that one.

It's a warranty repair, so I'm guessing you didn't pay anything? Which also means you won't be getting a discount on the service, which is something they'd do more out of goodwill than guilt.

They might give you some small form of store credit for the scratches, since in the end they are cosmetic and not something that will affect the usability of the laptop. They can't exactly repair it.

The scratches are a small deal to me (they bother me a lot but I can get over it)

But then they didn't even fix the issue which it was brought in for

It was a warranty repair and I should have taken pictures prior to bringing it in (and it was an open box which the guy mentioned on the phone, even though there were no scratches when i bought it there is no proof there isn't)

Was the issue you had constant, or something that would happen intermittently?

It was an issue that started after about 5.75 months and would not stop

It was the power jack not working and only working at a weird angle and if you touched the laptop or moved the screen it would stop charging

With the issue, the laptop is unusable

should have just RMA it with the laptop manufacturer, they would have a lot more knowledge on whats wrong, and have the part to replace it with. get a refund if you paid for it.

did you take pictures before you handed it off to them?

If microcenter is any smart, they would've taken pictures before doing any sort of "repair" on it, that's how Futureshop used to work here 7 years ago when I worked there, when you handed them something like a laptop, tablet or whatever else. Exactly to prevent customers from coming in and claiming "you've damaged my device!", so the scratches thing shouldn't be an issue.

As for the power issue not getting fixed, well that's just bad. Is there a possibility that your power adapter itself is defective and not the power jack? That could be the reason why they didn't "fix it" since it was working fine for them. (That is, if you also didn't hand them your power adapter with the laptop)

I gave the adapter with the laptop. The scratches legitimately weren't there and the manager said he would try to get them out as best he could. He also said, worst case he does a warranty buyout.

The problem with some people is they won't pay attention to their laptops until after they have fixed it. Scrutinizing every molecule for any damages that what might have already been there, before they brought it in for repair.

I had to fix one of my friends laptop and immediately, I saw a bunch of scratches all over it, even some on the screen as well as finger prints and a few missing keys. Told him, his laptop is full of scratches and he never noticed it. Showed him his laptop at a angle so the scratches reflects under the light and then he saw them. Told him to buy a new one instead.

I had paid a lot of attention to this but you may be correct.

There's no excuse for them claiming to fix it and it not being fixed.

The paper even said "Part replaced, device charging without needing to adjust cable constantly"

I know in the old says, the power jack is actually soldered to the motherboard. where the technician really have to repair it by soldering, etc.  Now some of these power jacks are modular with a cable attached to the motherboard. All they need to do was take broken one out and replace it with a new one.
