Apple asking $269 CAD for a replacement since it's harder to replace battery in these mbp since they are connected to the other components apparently.

You can replace a MB battery pretty easily unless they changed the process. As far as I know they are just jeld in there by a screw. except the MacBook which has stacked cells.

Macs are expensive and to justify the cost fully the pro lineup is the best bang for the buck. The airs are horrible, macbooks are glorified chromebooks, but the surface is still a decent option

I'm sorry that it can't play Crysis 3 at 2736x1824 at 60fps at ultra settings.

As far as lasting a long time, having experience with both Surface products and Apple products, I don't think you're going to get 5 years out of either.

 

If you're going for the SurfaceBook, I'd personally get MS's Complete.

Issue with the macbook air is it's resolution compared to all other laptop's these days & the text clarity would be better with higher resolution displays.

Text is huge for me as I will be on it reading a-lot.

the XPS 13 or the SB. the XPS with the 3200x1800 should be your choice if your budget isn't too large.

 

But I can promise you that neither will last 10 years. No laptop these days is meant to last past 3.
