Need help on a medical subject

LawrenceBarnes2013

So i could of just googled this but i couldn't figure out a way to put it in a simple google search so i'd really appreciate it if you guys could redirect me to an article or website of some sort where i an find some answers and hopefully a solution, it would be great. So here's the deal, it's my cousin, he's ten years old and ever since he was three or four years old, he fell several times down the stairs or in the kitchen on the back of his head, so many times it's swollen quit badly. at first his family didn't give it much attention, they thought, well all children fall and get up gain, only that he, since about four years ago, started showing some symptoms that suggested that thous falls did do some damage. So at first even at five, six, seven years old he couldn't talk properly, than he wouldn't understand what you're saying to him and he would just laugh, and a couple of years ago he stated loosing his balance and now he simply can't stand on his own.

Go to a neurologist and consider having a CT scan or better yet a MRI. I'm not a doctor but your cousin frequently falling since he's three might suggest Shaken Baby Syndrome. And please go to a board certified neurologist or better yet, a board-certified pediatric neurologist. Don't even consider going to medical charlatans like chiropractors.

There is more that meets the eye
I see the soul that is inside

It's admirable that you care, and that you want to get your cousin some help.  My advice would be to talk to your aunt and/or uncle and share your concern with them.  You've articulated very well something that they need to hear.

That is child neglect. Could even be a cover for child abuse.

What should have happened was the first time it happened, GO SEE A DOCTOR.

Second time it happened well time for the authorities to look into it and GO SEE A SPECIALIST.

Third time it happened, more has got to be done.

By the way parents do prison time for neglect. A few cases every year of a hippie parent(s) giving their child some hippie medicine and their child dies. They dont get off because of their hippie religion, they get a criminal record and prison time. One hippie mother got house arrest because they got lots of children, while the hippie father is doing short time. Should be children are now in foster care, but Nooooooooooooooooooooooo. Spay and Nueter the hippies is what I say.

Might've gotten some damage from a concussion to the back of his head, I know it can sometimes screw with your motor skills pretty badly.

Ok mate, i really do appreciate you pointing that out, but i know his parents, first of all, they ain't hippies in any way, second is that they do live a sort of outdoorsy life and, they are not in very good chap financially so. But admittedly, my aunt in particular is going through what i would only describe a denial regarding her son's condition and what caused it.

That's exactly what i thought but because i have no, sort of substantial backing up of this theory, and because his mother is in denial frankly regarding her son's condition because of what some shit doctors told her, i can't really step forward with it and even if i did they'll just say well what do you know you're no doctor and they really haven't got the budget for an MRI or CT so it's looking pretty hopeless here, but i really really want to do something about it cause i can't just let him become a loony.

I got two concussions and had similar types of issues for the years that followed. You can't really use that as evidence for your aunt and uncle but the more you know I guess. There's not too much you can do aside from doing a scan to know exactly what's happened and if it was trauma from a concussion the only thing you realistically can do is try and let it heal over time and take a deeper approach to education.

Well they did try and let it heal for the last six or seven years but it got worst by a country mile.

Yeah that's not supposed to happen. I had balance and speech problems but it cleared up a lot after 4-5 years, not worse.

So i suppose his concussion has done much more damage

Possibly but I don't know why it would get that much worse over that many years, I would have thought problems like that would show within the first few months.

Well they didn't and he was still a little boy when these falls happened so theoretically, he couldn't speak very well yet or what ever so there was no way of telling.

It's possible that your cousin has other special needs and it's not really up to you to say that it was due to accidents he had as a child. It's great that you're showing concern but it's more likely to be actual disabilities that he was born with imo.

I'd say it's fairly unlikely to have significantly damaged his motor skils as afaik the motor cortex is in the middle of the brain, rather than at the back. It's more likely to have affected his vision.

This is not the type of thing you ask the internet for help with.

The only answer is have him taken to a doctor.

True, very true, and i personally haven't rolled those possibilities out, and again i'm not a doctor i'm just trying to help. But when he was born he was totally normal laughed, responded, interacted the right way, he was normal. But his skull was really abused, i'm talking serious scale.

I now man common, i'm doing this because he was taken to several doctors who only made it worst, believe it or not, three of these fuck faces told his family "he's fine, just growing up" while the kid was 7 and still couldn't talk nor keep his balance. You have to understand sir that i know this is a tech community not a medical one, and me starting this topic was not in the hopes that someone would come to me straight away and say "ok, here's what's wrong with him, here's what to do, done" no, i'm here to find some ground where i could start properly digging this through.

Unfortunately this is real life and you aren't going to find a GameFAQ style step by step solution for the 'Good Ending'.  The real world solution is going to be a lot more murky, uncertain, and ugly.

I know that's what you're looking for. We get it.

But we can't help you. Full stop. EVEN IF someone had gone through a similar experience. EVEN IF a member happened to be a Doctor or a neurosurgeon. They still couldn't help you.

Because the variables are different. There's no baseline (We don't know what he was like before the "accident"). The environmental factors are different.

And most importantly, we cannot examine him over the Internet.

Have him go to a doctor, or there's nothing more you can do.
