What are the advantages of a more expensive Mobo?

TMac53

I see motherboards ranging in price from a low end one around $60 all the way up to several hundred dollars or more for high end ones. What are the advantages of higher end motherboards over ones that are less expensive?

Excluding chipsets and server MOBOs as factors, they have different features. Better onboard audio, m.2 slot(s), RGB lighting are just a few to be named.

More RGB's!!!

If you're comparing different chipsets, there will be bigger differences like overclocking capabilities.

If you're comparing the same chipset (ex. one Z270 motherboard with another), the more expensive ones usually have more SATA ports, more PCIE ports (or not, if you're comparing different form factors), more elaborate port options (a big difference between cheaper and more premium boards is the inclusion of more audio ports. Pretty much all consumer boards have 'the green, pink and blue' ports, more expensive board might have 5.1 audio ports or optical audio).

The real premium boards have differences like watercooling blocks on some parts of the board or RGB lightning effects.

You should always look at the specific boards in question and think about what stuff you want to have and what stuff you need to have.
