Sorry, don't know much about stocks.

You'd still make money if you bought in now and it went up, but it isn't anywhere near as profitable.  Buying in when it's insanely low for a multi-billion dollar company means that they basically would need to completely go under for you to lose money, and the only way you can really go is up.  An increase in share value of a dollar (which can happen easily) means a 50% increase on what you put in.  Buying in at $12 (roughly where it is now), means shares would have to go up by $6 to give a similar return.

Hmm, alright.  I'll have some stuff to think about then.

Yes, I understand this graph is from 2015 but the point remains, although Nvidia has more "money" than even Intel ATM, they might not be putting all of into R&D (which is the thing that allows for faster chips, better chips ect.)

 

Also, AMD isn't doing too badly in the consumer market where Nvidia has about 70% market share in the discreet GPU market while Intel has about a 80-85% market share in the CPU market where you may think "oh, that only leaves 30% and 15-20% for AMD" but when you consider it this way (yes, I know it doesn't work like this but you have to remember Intel and Nvidia aren't competing in both markets) where if we were to combine the GPU and CPU markets together, Nvidia only has a market share of 35%, intel has a market share of 40% and AMD has a market share of 25% where all it does is display how AMD isn't actually doing that badly overall (and yes, I know I've not touched on the professional and server markets.).

 

Is AMD still in Debt? Yep

Does AMD have less money lying around? Yep

Does it matter how they have 10x less money? No (but this is only right now, it may change however).

I was planning to buy a grand or so worth when it was in the $2 range, then got laid off and priorities obviously changed a bit.

 

Still kicking myself for that.  $2 is so low that it pretty much takes the shares becoming worthless to really take a large hit, and you don't often get that opportunity to buy into a huge company like that.

 

It's not quite at the level of people that bought $50 worth of BTC in 2010 then were too sketched out to actually buy drugs online with it and lost/squandered it.

Yeah man. I'm hoping it'll go higher to $20 or maybe even $40 like the Athlon days but considering I bought it less than a year ago and already have nearly multiplied my money by 6 I think I'm happy with my investment.

Also this is why AMD will never seriously compete against Intel in the future.  Intel makes as much money in 1 quarter as AMD is worth as a company in terms of market cap.

You can easily cash out 1-2x what you initially put in, and keep the rest as long as you keep your nerve.
