I don't see the point, once you can't distinguish pixels it just makes the device more expensive and kills the battery life for no reason.

I said this exact thing earlier, but the only use I can see for this is massive phones (6"+) and tablets. I just want 4K to become affordable for desktop and large mobile already (huge tablets/laptops).

If that amazing which it is it'll cost a ridiculous amount of money. A comparison the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 costs in the UK £600 pounds (the average for top tier premium phone) If a phone that can display 1080p videos and raw 4K video footage whether its using a super LCD 3/or AMOLED display its be a long way before cellular batteries, integrated GPU's and CPU can output a proper efficient screen.

The maximum ppi average human can see is 450 so what's the point of 4k for phones?

human eyes don't look with pixels, because when i hold my phone (441ppi) close to my eye, i can see all the pixels easily

consideringi can get a 1600p tablet for the same price its not. I want them for max. $300. I mean, they throw 1080p monitors at you these days so why not 2.5k?

Why push for higher resolution when batterie technology in these phones is TERRIBLE. And where will they get the horsepower to run even a game like temple run in 4K and all of this within a year? Samsung has their work cut out for them.

I don't think upgrading the technology is a bad thing, but the focus is all wrong.  Higher resolutions at more affordable prices (and lower screen sizes even) for monitors would be a bigger advantage efficiency wise than a 4k screen on a phone. 1920x1080 is fine for the larger devices but anything over that is just not necessary until that technology is used elsewhere.

Oh lovely a 4k display smartphone, I want one of those. Samsung has some big ambitions they want to make smartphones with 560 ppi (pixel per inch) in 2014 and 4k display in 2015. Knowing it's Samsung they will probably make it happen sooner or later. Right now LG already unveiled a 538 ppi smartphone.

Samsung phones already have some of the best displays out there and they’re going to get a lot better next year.AndroidBeat notes that Samsung said during its big analyst event in South Korea this week that it plans on unveiling smartphone displays that have a resolutions of 560 pixels per inch next year and that it hopes to roll out smartphones with 4K displays in 2015. To get a sense of how strong this resolution is, consider that Samsung’sGalaxy S4 has a resolution of 441 ppi while the iPhone 5s has a resolution of just 326 ppi. A smartphone display with 560 ppi would also top the 538 ppi display panel that LG unveiled this past summer.

I'm sorry but there isn't all that much difference between 720p and 1080p on phones of that size maybe if you are looking at small text. I struggle to see any pixels anyway unless I'd superglue my phone to my face. All this is going to do is waste energy and we already don't get enough of it on smartphones with the pathetic excuses for a battery that they still put in phones nowadays.
