RX 480 VS used GTX 970

I found a GTX 970 on ebay and its cheaper than a new RX 480 8GB

Which one of those cards would be better for the money in terms of frame rates, game and driver support, and longevity? 

Does the VRAM matter? The 970 is 4GB (3.5GB) while the RX 480 has a huge 8GB!

Also, which one of those can overclock the most?

Upgrading from a GTX 750Ti and R9 380 (long story)

If we're talking longevity, the RX 480 gets my absolute vote. Proper DX12 support will help in the future.

As for right now: they perform similarly, but the RX 480 is just a bit better (unless the game just doesn't like AMD) and it also has more VRAM which is helpful for its longevity.

480 all day long, 970 was a great card, but it's over 2 years old now, the vram will hurt it. 480 is a faster with more vram

that was a release review, the 480 is about 8% faster now (maybe less) due to better drivers

The 970 only ahs 3.5 GB of VRAM, SO I would shell out the extra money on the 480

But if you're on a tight budget 970 for sure

It all depends on what games you're going to play

A RX 480 is comparable to a 980. Not a 970 anymore

It actually 4 GB, but effectively 3.5 GB because the other 0.5 GB is slow... so not exactly helpful.

the "slow down" is not as abrupt as many people claim/thought at least not after Nvidia "fixed" it and many didn't notice it until they compare with similarly powerful card.
