How to make ASUS motherboard NOT provide USB power when PC is off?

So, I have an LED strip plugged into my PC via USB, and even when the power to the PC is off, it is still it up, which makes it so I have to physically uplug my PC every night. Is there any way to make my ASUS B150-PLUS NOT provide power to the USB ports when the computer is shut down?

Are you sure your computer isn't going into a suspend state instead of actually shutting down?

There's probably a UEFI option somewhere to disable the power to USB ports when the computer is shut off.

I'll look.

EDIT: Nope, no options there. I'd bet it's ASUS AI charger.

Are you actually 100% positive? Many new motherboards will go into a deep suspend state by default instead of actually shutting down completely.

It makes the wake from sleep time faster.

It is as off as it gets, straight cutting AC power changes nothing but USB power.

There is a option in the bios, look at the USB section or something. Just saw it on my board, but I never enable it, although I can still charge my phone through the case's front panel usb.

Need to look at the description of what function does. It will say it at the bottom of your screen.

Not a unusual name, the only one I can think on top of my head now is USB initialization and default is set to half. This makes the board recognize your USB devices before it boots into windows. When it's set to off, then your USB won't get detected until windows is booted. Don't know if you turn it off, will you be still press del to get back into the bios with a USB keyboard.

The closest thing I found is USB charging in power state S5, which still does not solve the issue.

I know the chances of this working is 0%, but does disabling audio led do anything to your light strip?

Your only option to have it turn off is to find a switch or try to plug your light strip directly to your psu.

This might work for you, try to just find the remote kit without the light stripe

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B2F3KDQ?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00.

yeah, definitely going to do that soon, just wondered if there was a way to do this with software until I can do that, as my monitor has broken and all available PC money is going towards a new one.

i found the one without the light strip, but some say the wiring is all messed up?!

https://www.amazon.com/SUPERNIGHT-Remote-Controller-Light-Strip/dp/B00AF5YOK2/ref=sr_1_4?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1484169331&sr=1-4&keywords=rgb+light+strip+remote+control

One person got 2 and instead of being wired properly as RGB, he got one that's BGR and the other GRB.

another option is to flip the psu switch off, but that's a PITA too. This might work for you

https://www.amazon.com/Leviton-1470-W-3-Wire-Grounded-Switch/dp/B01894YMX4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1484169871&sr=8-3&keywords=3+prong+outlet+switch

https://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Conserve-Power-Switch-F7C016q/dp/B005MYN3OO/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1484169871&sr=8-4&keywords=3+prong+outlet+switch

Might also need this guy, if your outlet is near the floor

https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Dtools&field-keywords=3+prong+extension

Outlet-->outlet extension-->outlet switch-->your PC power cord. And mount it some where next to your desk, so you can have easy access. After done using machine, just off led by flipping the switch.

Hi,

I was on the very same situation and managed to solved by turning off Windows Fast Startup.

I know it’s a ~6 years old thread, but there aren’t many search results pointing to the solution, so I decided to comment here for future reference. I just signed up, hope it helps someone.
