Depends on how far away from your screen you are and the size of the screen.

about 27 inches screen size and about arms length from the screen

Yeah better than 1080p but still 144FPS on most if all games

i have one of the original fury cards im pretty sure it could run most of the stuff i play at 1080p 144hz maybe ill do that

I bought mine for less than 400$ (25", https://www.amazon.com/AOC-Q2577PWQ-Ecran-2560-1440/dp/B00WK39NXK)
I love it in general usage (web browsing, desktop, office software, graphic design, video editing) cause I find it wonderful to have more screen space for software interface and windows. It may not seems like much, but I sometime switch to my older 1920x1080 screen when I'm at work and I feel tight.

 

I also love it on games where I can scale the UI, but they are not common. On most games I think I wouldn't tell the difference.

On the other hand I probably can't tell between 60 and 144 Hz.

If your playing games like Strategy games, or open world (like fallout 4, witcher 3) etc then it's not all that worth it. Games like BF1, CSGO, Osu!, Mania feel really nice on 144hz. 

So it's deciding whether you want things to look better or feel faster

What are your specs? I would say its worth it, looks better than 1080p, but easier to run and cheaper than 4K.

You can always check out monitors at a local store near you and see how they look. See if the certain resolution appeals to you or the features on a monitor does. 

Some places let you try them out for a little bit and get a feel for how the 60 compared to 144 hertz feel

I just went to pcpartpicker and it didnt show literally any 144hz 1080p ips monitors

I'm wondering, why 144 Hz is the norm and not 120 Hz which is a multiple of 60?

120 Hz used to be common. But then companies started making 144hz monitors for the same price as the old 120 hz monitors and the market just adapted.. that's honestly the only thing to it.

I don't think it's worth it. To get comparable performance you have to spend around an extra $800 - $1,000.

At that size and range you would probably notice the additional Pixels, at that range with a 22 or below you wouldn't really notice it, with that size if it was closer you would definitely notice it, if it was further away you probably wouldn't notice it.
